      Orphan Attachments   07/31/2018

I have been doing some housekeeping lately and I've noticed that I had a lot of orphaned attachments. Attachments get orphaned when the PM or post is deleted without removing the attachment first. Deleting a PM or post does not delete the attachment and the file or image remain on the server. I'd like to ask all members to go through their attachments and delete any attachments you don't need anymore or those that have been orphaned. Where can I get a list of my attachments? Click on your display name in the upper right corner of the forums and pick "My Attachments" from the drop-down list. How can I tell an attachment is orphaned? If the PM has been deleted, you'll see a message like this in your attachment list: Unfortunately there is no message if the post has been deleted, so please check your old posts. We do purge old birthday threads every once in a while. Also some hosted projects have been shut down, so you may have orphaned attachments on one of those locations. Thanks!

  1. Star Trek - Discussion

Yeah but we always see men trying to portray women. Having said that, I think they did a good job with Kate Mulgrew doing Janeway. But I don’t get Michael at all. She drives me nuts.
  2. [RELz] Oblivion XP

It’s not Oblivion XP. It’s another mod higher (loading before Ob XP) that’s got an OBSE scripting problem. That causes OBSE to stop processing and you get errors in some random mod later in your load order. Sort your load order with BOSS and create a Bashed Patch. If that doesn’t work, then you need to start removing mods until you find the culprit.
  3. Missing .ini files(?)

Ob XP is fine with custom classes so I don’t see why Cobl’s changes would be any different.
  4. Missing .ini files(?)

Yeah I’d try installing them again. You might have to customize Wrye Bash. I believe that the default is to have the mods folder outside your Oblivion installation so that you can use the same set of mods with several game instances. I’d check the WB readme. Personally I have a Bash ini file to change the WB mods folder to be in each Oblivion game instance. If Wrye Bash seems in order, then have a look at how to install mods with BAIN. You might find TESCOSI helpful, although some of the instructions are probably out of date. Tomlong’s general mod installation instructions still apply and her section on installation order for mods is extremely helpful and still applies. She has a lot of information on installing mods with BAIN.
  5. [RELz] Rev's Tiny Chest

When you want to upload a new version, just edit the previous version. The forum software will show the new version and update the release thread for you. Please don't delete files as that may cause errors if people have links to your file.
  6. Missing .ini files(?)

So you've got Oblivion\Data\ini as directories and all the ini files are in that directory? Where do you have Oblivion installed? If it's under Program Files, then Windows might be interfering. Don't install Oblivion to Program Files - it needs to be able to write to the installation directory and Windows won't allow it. I recommend something like D:\Games or C:\Games. If it's not that, then it could be a permissions issue, but that would be a first that I've heard of.
  7. Star Trek - Discussion

That could be. The one thing in particular that I don’t like with Discovery is the more advanced ship design and technology than what they would have had at that time. I was wondering how they were going to explain the disappearance of the spore drive, because there was no way they would hang on to ST fans if they continued to have that as an option. Voyager is my favourite ST series, from season 4 onwards. The first three seasons were horrible!
  8. Missing .ini files(?)

Nope, it wants data\ini too. If you’re installing with Wrye Bash, it should be creating the directories and putting the files there. Are you running the installation wizards? You should be running the wizards from the Installers tab in Wrye Bash.
  9. The Beaverton

I kid you not, that’s exactly what it’s like for my husband and I, but our roles are reversed. He’s on blood thinners, so he’s always cold. He’ll be dressed in flannels while I’ve got shorts on. You can always tell the multi-generation Canadians: shorts and t-shirts while recent immigrants from hot climates have parkas on. It makes for hilarious pictures in the spring and fall.
  10. The Beaverton

Warning: Watching these videos will seriously bend your brain, especially if you are American. Consider yourself warned. The Beaverton is a Canadian comedy show that picks on “news”. It’s no holds barred and will offend a lot of people, as intended. For example, they had a skit on tonight’s show with a native Indian that said that they would only be happy once we gave up half the Canadian territory. Yes, shocker! We are having a battle with our indigeous people. They also like to pick on Trump (who doesn’t?). This is super Canadian, but you might find some common ground. You’ve been warned though!
  11. BEX Crashes

I'm getting BEX crashes with Oblivion when I leave an interior. I found this work-around and it has reduced them a bit: -In Control Panel click on System then - Click on advanced system settings >Performance / Settings Click the Data Execution Prevention tab, and then click Turn on DEP for all programs and services except those I select. Click Add, and browse to the executable file for the program and add it. I have to quick save every time I'm going to leave an interior. Very annoying.
  12. Star Trek - Discussion

So you’re bitching because the new crew has a lot more female representation? As you point out, TOS focused on three characters: Kirk, Spock and McCoy. Only Kirk and Spock were bridge crew. All were male. What about the rest of the bridge crew? Did we ever get a focus on Uhura? No, of course not! Her biggest contribution was a kiss with Kirk. Ironically we got a lot more background on Uhura from the series reboot. I loved that scene, btw. The whole point of Discovery is Michael, so if that pisses you off, watch something else. The producers proudly pronounced she was the point of the show. I didn’t see anything else in the trailers for the show. One point I do agree with you and Vorians on is how she magically became the adopted child of Sarek. I really think they could have picked a different Vulcan when the producers decided that was a requirement. As far as I’m concerned, she has to die to have any chance of matching Star Trek cannon.
  13. Random Stuffz

I haven’t seen Dracula Untold, but most Dracula movies are talking about Vlad the Impaler, the son of Vald Dracul and not Dracul himself. This would be the first I’ve heard of to confuse the two.
  14. Star Trek - Discussion

It didn’t seem to be centered around the captain or bridge crew. In fact a lot of them turned out to be rather temporary, didn’t they? Certainly the captain wasn’t who he seemed. Different strokes I guess. Personally I didn’t care.
  15. Star Trek - Discussion

Well if you really want to get nik-picky, The Cage was filmed but never aired as the pilot. It was rejected by the network in favour of Where No Man has Gone Before. The Cage was later completed and broadcast as The Menagerie. You nailed the timing of Discovery though. I was trying to place it. I own all the series except DS9, which I couldn’t stand, and all the movies, including the new ones. I loved Benedict Cumberbatch as Khan. I actually like the fact that they didn’t focus on the bridge crew. The focused on a crew member when it was their time for the spotlight. For example a good portion of the season focused on the guy that operated the spore drive. It’s nice that it’s not captain wonder coming to the rescue yet again.
  16. Star Trek - Discussion

Leo, Discovery takes place before the original Star Trek with Jim Kirk as captain! No wonder you’re confused. It’s from the time when Pike was captain of the Enterprise, which precedes the original series. They show you what happens to Pike in the Menagerie in the original series. The season finale for Discovery showed the lead-up to the Menagerie and Pike had a glimpse of his future when he did the Klingon challenge to get the time stones. I’ve always found that the Star Trek series suck for the first three seasons, so Discovery is doing pretty good. Oh right, they’re rebooting Picard. Not sure about that yet.
  17. Star Trek - Discussion

Yeah I thought they were really good too, but the studio had a budget and the actors refused the offer. I haven’t seen any of them in much since so hopefully they’ll come to terms eventually. Didn’t I hear something about a new series in the works? Discovery is ok, but it’s making a mess of the historical story.
  18. Star Trek - Discussion

I love Trek but have never gotten into the games. I actually like the new series and think it’s too bad Chris Pine and company were demanding so much money to continue.
  19. Random Stuffz

    That’s cute!
  20. Nice! Some of those are quite reasonably priced which would help someone who does VA as a hobby. I’m guessing you do VA work? We have a few roles that need filling for DBC if you’re interested. If so, send me a PM and I’ll give you the details.
  21. This is my guide for getting started with voice acting. It has some information on microphones, recording environment and software. All prices are US Dollars and are listed for comparison purposes only. Microphones Professional - I'm not qualified to comment. Looking at $250 - $5000. Mid Level - USB mics are the best option since they have their own preamplifier and an analog-to-digital converter (A/D converter). The microphones listed below are all condenser mics, which are ideal for low to medium level sound sources, like you would have with voice acting. Dynamic microphones typically have a limited frequency response, so they are more suited to live vocals (singing) and loud guitar amps. Having said that, there are some dynamic mics that are suitable for voice over work and I list one below. USB Condenser Microphones Blue Yeti $129 - $150 Audio Technica AT2020 $100 - $169 Samson CO1U $80 - $130 Samson Meteor $60 - $70 Blue Snowball $50 - $70 CAD U37 $50 - $70 USB Dynamic Microphones Samson Q1U $50 Headset Microphones Headset microphones are really only suited for chatting on Skype or chatting with your friends while playing games. They just don't have the range to reproduce your voice accurately. You'll find that normal talking is fine, but as soon as you need to inject some emotion into your acting, your poor mic will be overloaded and you'll get clipping. You'll also find that your voice just isn't all the clear - it will have a muddy quality to it. I have heard some recordings from headset mics that have surprised me, but I usually have to amplify the recordings because the gain just isn't high enough and once I do that, the recording is pretty noisy. Pop Filters In addition to a microphone, you'll need a pop filter. Condenser mics are very sensitive, so they'll pick up sibilant and plosive sounds from S's and P's. A pop filter will prevent these issues. I've had to ask many an actor to redo their recordings due to the hissing sound of S's and the popping of P's. Pop filters also help reduce the noise of your breathing. Microphone Settings If your microphone has noise reduction or automatic gain control (AGC), disable those settings. If there is a quality setting, set to the highest. If it's labelled as CD or DVD quality, set it to DVD. Recording Environment It's extremely important that your recording environment be as quiet as possible, with no effects from the room like echo. Using a laptop to record is usually a better option because the fans are quieter. If the room you're recording in echoes, then hanging drapes or blankets on the walls may help. There are even acoustic sound blankets and wall panels available if you can afford to outfit your room with them. Another option is an Isolation or Reflection Filter. They can be pricey and are mounted on the microphone stand. I did find some nice desktop microphone stands that including a reflection filter for about $80 USD. Removing noise from a recording will alter the recording, sometimes damaging it to the point where it's unusable, so it's vital to set yourself up with a good recording environment if you wish to pursue voice acting work. Software Fortunately you don't need to shell out a bunch of cash for recording software. You can get started with Audacity just fine and if this turns into a serious undertaking, then you can upgrade to one of the professional editing options. Audacity - free Goldwave - free up to 2500 commands, then you must purchase a license. $19/yr or $59 lifetime. Goldwave has a few more features than Audacity, but I'm not as familiar with it. Adobe Audition CS6 - $350. Lots more features than Audacity. Sound Forge 10 - $500. Cubase 7 - $500.
  22. A decent VR set?

Unless you have cash to throw around, I’d say wait too. I’m not sure if it will be abandoned this time though. They are finding uses for it in industry and medicine. One example I saw on America’s Got Talent (of all places!) was to help people get over phobias. They used it on Howie Mandel since one of his many phobias is fear of heights.
  23. Interest Rates

Yeah you do wonder how the system keeps going. We do have a bit of room for lower rates. The Bank of Canada raised rates a couple of times in the past couple of years. It's just when Trump started his shit that we've had to look at lowering them again. We don't have any of our retirement savings in interest accounts. Some are in bonds, but most are other kinds of investments. I don't know all the details because we have a financial advisor who looks after everything. We have some stocks, but our advisor stays clear of anything volatile.
  24. [RELz] Elsweyr Anequina

Enough! She had hidden the file and now has un-hidden it so she could advertise its new location. This thread is pointless. Locking it.
  25. Interest Rates

The problem with low interest rates is the effect on investment. We’re heading into another recession though with the protectionist governments, so they will probably have to lower interest rates again.
