  1. Star Trek - Discussion

It didn’t seem to be centered around the captain or bridge crew. In fact a lot of them turned out to be rather temporary, didn’t they? Certainly the captain wasn’t who he seemed. Different strokes I guess. Personally I didn’t care.
  2. Star Trek - Discussion

Well if you really want to get nik-picky, The Cage was filmed but never aired as the pilot. It was rejected by the network in favour of Where No Man has Gone Before. The Cage was later completed and broadcast as The Menagerie. You nailed the timing of Discovery though. I was trying to place it. I own all the series except DS9, which I couldn’t stand, and all the movies, including the new ones. I loved Benedict Cumberbatch as Khan. I actually like the fact that they didn’t focus on the bridge crew. The focused on a crew member when it was their time for the spotlight. For example a good portion of the season focused on the guy that operated the spore drive. It’s nice that it’s not captain wonder coming to the rescue yet again.
  3. Star Trek - Discussion

Leo, Discovery takes place before the original Star Trek with Jim Kirk as captain! No wonder you’re confused. It’s from the time when Pike was captain of the Enterprise, which precedes the original series. They show you what happens to Pike in the Menagerie in the original series. The season finale for Discovery showed the lead-up to the Menagerie and Pike had a glimpse of his future when he did the Klingon challenge to get the time stones. I’ve always found that the Star Trek series suck for the first three seasons, so Discovery is doing pretty good. Oh right, they’re rebooting Picard. Not sure about that yet.
  4. Star Trek - Discussion

Yeah I thought they were really good too, but the studio had a budget and the actors refused the offer. I haven’t seen any of them in much since so hopefully they’ll come to terms eventually. Didn’t I hear something about a new series in the works? Discovery is ok, but it’s making a mess of the historical story.
  5. Star Trek - Discussion

I love Trek but have never gotten into the games. I actually like the new series and think it’s too bad Chris Pine and company were demanding so much money to continue.
  6. Random Stuffz

    That’s cute!
  7. Nice! Some of those are quite reasonably priced which would help someone who does VA as a hobby. I’m guessing you do VA work? We have a few roles that need filling for DBC if you’re interested. If so, send me a PM and I’ll give you the details.
  8. This is my guide for getting started with voice acting. It has some information on microphones, recording environment and software. All prices are US Dollars and are listed for comparison purposes only. Microphones Professional - I'm not qualified to comment. Looking at $250 - $5000. Mid Level - USB mics are the best option since they have their own preamplifier and an analog-to-digital converter (A/D converter). The microphones listed below are all condenser mics, which are ideal for low to medium level sound sources, like you would have with voice acting. Dynamic microphones typically have a limited frequency response, so they are more suited to live vocals (singing) and loud guitar amps. Having said that, there are some dynamic mics that are suitable for voice over work and I list one below. USB Condenser Microphones Blue Yeti $129 - $150 Audio Technica AT2020 $100 - $169 Samson CO1U $80 - $130 Samson Meteor $60 - $70 Blue Snowball $50 - $70 CAD U37 $50 - $70 USB Dynamic Microphones Samson Q1U $50 Headset Microphones Headset microphones are really only suited for chatting on Skype or chatting with your friends while playing games. They just don't have the range to reproduce your voice accurately. You'll find that normal talking is fine, but as soon as you need to inject some emotion into your acting, your poor mic will be overloaded and you'll get clipping. You'll also find that your voice just isn't all the clear - it will have a muddy quality to it. I have heard some recordings from headset mics that have surprised me, but I usually have to amplify the recordings because the gain just isn't high enough and once I do that, the recording is pretty noisy. Pop Filters In addition to a microphone, you'll need a pop filter. Condenser mics are very sensitive, so they'll pick up sibilant and plosive sounds from S's and P's. A pop filter will prevent these issues. I've had to ask many an actor to redo their recordings due to the hissing sound of S's and the popping of P's. Pop filters also help reduce the noise of your breathing. Microphone Settings If your microphone has noise reduction or automatic gain control (AGC), disable those settings. If there is a quality setting, set to the highest. If it's labelled as CD or DVD quality, set it to DVD. Recording Environment It's extremely important that your recording environment be as quiet as possible, with no effects from the room like echo. Using a laptop to record is usually a better option because the fans are quieter. If the room you're recording in echoes, then hanging drapes or blankets on the walls may help. There are even acoustic sound blankets and wall panels available if you can afford to outfit your room with them. Another option is an Isolation or Reflection Filter. They can be pricey and are mounted on the microphone stand. I did find some nice desktop microphone stands that including a reflection filter for about $80 USD. Removing noise from a recording will alter the recording, sometimes damaging it to the point where it's unusable, so it's vital to set yourself up with a good recording environment if you wish to pursue voice acting work. Software Fortunately you don't need to shell out a bunch of cash for recording software. You can get started with Audacity just fine and if this turns into a serious undertaking, then you can upgrade to one of the professional editing options. Audacity - free Goldwave - free up to 2500 commands, then you must purchase a license. $19/yr or $59 lifetime. Goldwave has a few more features than Audacity, but I'm not as familiar with it. Adobe Audition CS6 - $350. Lots more features than Audacity. Sound Forge 10 - $500. Cubase 7 - $500.
  9. A decent VR set?

Unless you have cash to throw around, I’d say wait too. I’m not sure if it will be abandoned this time though. They are finding uses for it in industry and medicine. One example I saw on America’s Got Talent (of all places!) was to help people get over phobias. They used it on Howie Mandel since one of his many phobias is fear of heights.
  10. Interest Rates

Yeah you do wonder how the system keeps going. We do have a bit of room for lower rates. The Bank of Canada raised rates a couple of times in the past couple of years. It's just when Trump started his shit that we've had to look at lowering them again. We don't have any of our retirement savings in interest accounts. Some are in bonds, but most are other kinds of investments. I don't know all the details because we have a financial advisor who looks after everything. We have some stocks, but our advisor stays clear of anything volatile.
  11. [RELz] Elsweyr Anequina

Enough! She had hidden the file and now has un-hidden it so she could advertise its new location. This thread is pointless. Locking it.
  12. Interest Rates

The problem with low interest rates is the effect on investment. We’re heading into another recession though with the protectionist governments, so they will probably have to lower interest rates again.
  13. [RELz] Elsweyr Anequina

The description says the file is old and the new one is only available on AFK.
  14. Elsweyr: Desert of Anequina Remastered

That hasn’t changed in several years. They probably have other means to keep in contact.
  15. Getting Dr Sulphur to run on modern Windows

? If she can’t access her account, she wouldn’t be able to send you a PM, or are you referring to another forum? Her account is fine so she should be able to request a password reset, unless she doesn’t have access to the email account she used to register.
  16. Choices the Masquerade: Blood Bound

Do you think most players would even notice?
  17. Choices the Masquerade: Blood Bound

I seriously need to catch up with this thread....
  18. What are you listening to right now?

You do love the old stuff!
  19. [Relz, WIP] Elsweyr Pelletine

That’s a mislabel on Nexus’ part. That’s probably what’s confusing Leo.
  20. Elder Scrolls: Blades Early Access

Bethesda just released a new blog update in which they outline their future plans for the game. Behind the E3 Update
  21. 4Gb Patch

As Malonn said, just run the program (4GB patch program) and pick Oblivion.exe as the program to apply it to.
  22. [RELz] Elsweyr Anequina

If I wanted you to leave, I would have said so. Deleting the original file and then uploading it again where a new release thread would be created made no sense and broke a lot of links. We need the threads so I have the option to migrate to other forum packages that don’t have download areas. They handle file uploads as attachments to forum threads.
  23. Elder Scrolls: Blades Early Access

I imagine Beth will release Blades on other platforms eventually, if they haven’t already. I thought I saw something about PS4, but I might be mistaken.
  24. Elder Scrolls: Blades Early Access

My cell phone is a cell phone and that’s it! No data, no text messages (although it is capable). I use my iPad for Blades. I can’t imagine playing on a phone, although the new ones are pretty big. My cell phone’s screen is 2” x 2.75”.
  25. Elder Scrolls: Blades Early Access

If you were thinking of checking this out, this might be the weekend to do it. Bethesda released another update and are having a weekend sale. You can get chests in the store for 25% fewer gems. I have enough gems to buy an Elder chest without having to use any real money. Gems seem to be dropping a lot more in the recent updates. Beth has also guaranteed that the chests will have a lot more smithing and construction materials and armour or weapons. I’ve gotten some much needed upgrades. In the previous update, Beth also introduced secret rooms in the job dungeons, which I think are randomly generated. The secret rooms always have a chest and other treasure.
