  1. My PC is dead. The hard drive has been corrupted and I can’t recover it. I don’t have any backups because our NAS ran out of space. One of the drives on the NAS has also failed.

The second pass is done. I have no idea how to compare the files from the two passes to see how many files are duplicates. The OS is non-functional. I might be able to use my Mac but that’s a pain. Anyway I have lots of files to check, so hopefully the stuff I care about is there.

You can always try WinMerge for the diff- it will do binary as well- not sure about the file size limits though.

      AndalayBay

Yeah I use Winmerge all the time. The problem is that all the executables are on the dead drive, so nothing like that will run. I might be able to use my husband’s machine. The recovered files are on the network, so I might be able to run Winmerge on his machine.

  2. Ibsen’s Ghost just finished writing the final quest for Black Marsh. It is 25 pages long...

  4. I’m back! Again. The new modem was a challenge to configure so we’ve been offline for the past couple of days.

It was torture being offline! :lmao:

Understood.  You spent all your money on your home renovations that took 10 years?  :)

      Yep. And more. :(

  6. If you’ve noticed some issues when visiting lately, that was me getting IPv6 working on the server.  I wound up getting help from Linode. All fixed now! If you are using IPv6 you should now get a full IPv6 response.

Sounds as if they had a couple of "Teksavvy" work experience ops in for the day.

I got a test modem from them today, so I’m back online for now. I’m going to see if I can “repair” my old modem before buying a new one. The test modem is an upgrade, but I don’t really need the extra features.

We’ve enabled IPv6 on the test modem, but I have no idea if I’m visiting with IPv6. I probably have to switch to my static IPv6 account.

  7. OH NO!!!!!!!! Notre Dame Cathedral in Paris, France has been destroyed by fire. I’m not Catholic, but I love the architecture and art in old churches and cathedrals. We didn’t get a chance to see the cathedral when we visited Paris. This is devasting.

Things may not be as dire as they looked earlier. We’ll know more in the morning. It looks like they saved the stone towers and part of the roof. Hopefully the rose window is undamaged. Last I heard, they said they wouldn’t know for sure until the morning.

The news about the fire is hot news in Sweden and some religious communities has already began to collect money for the renovation of the Notre Dame Cathedral in Paris.

A Swedish news reporter who previous covered France said that the Fire Department in Paris was praised for their job and that probably minimized to damage.

I guess will all have to wait and see what happens.

There are several billionaires in France who are competing to pay for the restoration. Basically several of the big fashion and cosmetic companies, so it will get rebuilt. I am pleased, and somewhat shocked, to say that they were able to save a number of artifacts and paintings. Even the organ survived, although they aren’t sure of the extent of the water damage yet. It didn’t get burned though. I can’t believe they lost the roof, but so much of the interior survived. Thankfully much of it is stone, so they were able to save it. I just remember from past travels that I saw so many churches and castles destroyed by fire because they were mostly made of wood, or even if they had a mostly stone construction, they just collapsed. It would seem that taking 300 years to build the Notre Dame has paid off. Good on them and something to remember.

Oh, and the rose window survived.

  8. Jimi is back home. Thanks for the hugs everyone. :hugs:

Good.  I'll look for your response in the other status post.

  9. I need some hugs. My husband, Jimi, is in hospital with cancer. The doctors were optimistic, but his first chemo treatment didn’t go as well as we hoped. We really need to get a proper update from his doctors.

Understood.  He would lose a large section of his liver, wouldn't he?  If they removed the tumor?

    3. AndalayBay

      AndalayBay

It would kill him. He wouldn’t have enough liver left so they have to reduce the size of the tumour and get the good part of his liver to grow so it can handle the load once the tumour is removed.

Oh, oh.  I'm sorry for you guys.  My grandmother died from cancer (colon) and watching her waste away was hard.  I hope you don't have to go through the same.

  10. Curie, my big blue British Shorthair is giving birth today. She weighed a whopping 7.6 kg!! That's about 2 kg more than her normal weight.

  11. Got all my Christmas shopping done, including stocking stuffers! Hoorah!

  12. We literally have kittens under our feet. Eight of them to be exact, ranging in age from 6 to 12 weeks. They are little terrors.

Actually they're very disruptive. I'll be much happier once I get them sold!

  13. Well that was way more exciting than it should have been...

We had a cat show in Nepean (near Ottawa) this weekend. The area got hit by at least one tornado! We arrived 10:30 pm Friday late and the entire city was pitch black! The winds were still super strong and pushed the car all over the road.

The power is still out in most of the city, so the show had to be cancelled. We had no power in the hotel last night but it came back on this afternoon. We’ve decided to stay tonight and drive home tomorrow morning.

In the end, the Ottawa-Gatineau area got hit by 6 tornadoes. They don't usually happen at this time of year, so people were caught by surprise.

  14. If you send Wretched Fetcher a PM, he will not receive an email notification. His email address is invalid.

  15. Another weekend, another cat show...

We’re back and Darwin might have earned his Grand Champion status in his first show. We’re not sure because the points system is rather convulted, so I’ll need to wait until all the points are tabulated. I’ll put up a post explaining cat shows with some pictures.

  24. Ada is in labour. New kits on the way! All the other cats are really curious about the proceedings. She has a line-up at the cage checking things out. I just got her nest finished in time!

Still no labour. I’m getting worried!

  25. My queen, Ada, will have another litter of kittens this weekend. She’s so big, Jimi called her a whale the other day. I think she looks like a watermelon. :D I put my hand on her belly tonight and I could feel the kittens move! It was awesome.
