      Orphan Attachments   07/31/2018

I have been doing some housekeeping lately and I've noticed that I had a lot of orphaned attachments. Attachments get orphaned when the PM or post is deleted without removing the attachment first. Deleting a PM or post does not delete the attachment and the file or image remain on the server. I'd like to ask all members to go through their attachments and delete any attachments you don't need anymore or those that have been orphaned. Where can I get a list of my attachments? Click on your display name in the upper right corner of the forums and pick "My Attachments" from the drop-down list. How can I tell an attachment is orphaned? If the PM has been deleted, you'll see a message like this in your attachment list: Unfortunately there is no message if the post has been deleted, so please check your old posts. We do purge old birthday threads every once in a while. Also some hosted projects have been shut down, so you may have orphaned attachments on one of those locations. Thanks!

I wouldn’t give them all those avenues to contact you. I wish we could disable PM’s on Nexus. Now I know why so many people let their inboxes fill up! Anyway a hint thread will help.

    3. Vincent

      Vincent

That is a good idea. I do get a lot of the same questions.

    4. AndalayBay

      AndalayBay

I also pinned an FAQ post on Nexus that included a link to the hints thread. Then when I got the same question yet again, I’d tell them to check the FAQ pinned at the top of the comments. Don’t answer their question directly - make them look it up. Don’t be rude, but point them to the post with the answer.

  2. Big update coming to The Brotherhood of Old very soon. Wasn't planning on adding any new features after launch, but you know, things happen.

      Only too well. :P

  3. Just got back from E3. That was crazy. So many people. Sensory overload.

Were you allowed to take pictures?  And a write-up would be awesome

    4. Vincent

      Vincent

Yeah pictures were allowed in most places. Some games I wasn't allowed to take a direct picture of the screen.

  4. Fallout 76... A Fallout spinoff developed by Bethesda Game Studios themselves. Strange. Very strange. You would think they would get someone like Obsidian to do it going by history and the fact that they're apparently so busy.

BGS is about 3x the size they were in 2010 so they have plenty of people throughout the company to handle doing this. Especially since it's pretty clear they recycled FO4 assets and probably the same engine too.

  5. With version 0.9.5 of The Brotherhood of Old now out, here's hoping there will be an end to these ceaseless bug reports.

Welcome to modding. It’s great when you figure out a bug though.

"Ok guys here's a new version. Everything works great."

"Hey here's this new bug that I found that doesn't make any sense at all and no one else is reporting and I have no idea how it happened or how to reproduce it but please fix it k thx!"

    3. AndalayBay

      AndalayBay

I did find that there could be some odd timing issues that would affect some folks and not others. I've got a few to fix in DBC with the next release, for example.

  6. Going back and working with the Skyrim LE Creation Kit today has made me realize how slow and broken the SSE version is.

  7. Bug reports. Kill me.

      AndalayBay

Welcome to mod releases. I really hated it when people still found stuff after all the internal testing we did for DBC. Sometimes it’s just the engine not being to keep up with what you’re trying to do. In DBC, it’s the courier trying to find the player. I’ll be adding a script to teleport the courier a bit closer to the player’s current position so he can find the PC more reliably.

    2. Vincent

      Vincent

It's like... stuff that no one had a problem with during testing that shouldn't even be happening.

    3. AndalayBay

      AndalayBay

With Oblivion, I usually found there was a reason. Basically it came down to limitations with the game engine that we needed to find a work-around for. Have you looked at how Skyrim processes scripts? The engine will abandon a script if it runs too long, although I think there’s a way to override that with directives, sort of. Basically you really need to make sure your scripts won’t run too long. Very anal.

  8. The Brotherhood of Old releases tomorrow night. Basically.

  9. Implementing some last minute side quests in TBO before I release it. I plan for them to have no objective markers. Yay or nay? You guys up for some classic difficulty?

It really does.  I used to not think so until I played some older RPGs that didn't have map markers, and now I play without the markers.  Except in Blackreach.  Blackreach can die.

    3. AndalayBay

      AndalayBay

For optional side quests, I agree. I missed that part. I think it would be a nice departure.

  10. Dear Bethesda gods, please have mercy on my soul let let your software work like it's supposed to.

  11. Gotta love when stupid unexplained bugs cause you to just say forget it and completely cut out content just so you can move on.

Take a break and do something else. You're burnt out and need a break. :)

It took me years to return to Oblivion, but I'm enjoying it again. I'll be even happier when I figure out the damned menus again. :P

Burnout is definitely a thing. Take a step back and care for yourself.

  14. I've never liked CCGs but Fable Fortune is pretty good, I have to admit. Hopefully Microsoft will show renewed interest in the mainline games if it does well.

  15. Switched to an SSD for my OS installation. Jeez, it really is fast. Partnered with this Ryzen CPU is nuts.

It's ok, my PC is completely tits up tonight. It won't even boot. The keyboard freezes so I can't get into the bios. I am so frustrated!

No. I'll explain in a new comment.

  18. All the parts for my Ryzen 1800X build have arrived, except for the case to put them all in. Postal service really knows how to play with me.

If I remember correctly, the Ryzen 1800 has 8 cores allowing for multi-threading. It's an ideal processor for those who are involved in programming, design, video streaming etc.

I ended up just going there to get it. It was the next town over so it wasn't a long drive. I've dealt with UPS customer service on a few occasions and they just manage to piss me off so I didn't want to bother.

  19. Bethesda announced Creation Club. Modders and 3rd party sources working with Bethesda directly. Mods need credits to be downloaded. Sounds like paid mods again.

Not just for the sake of the program fulfilling its purpose rather than devolving into gatekeeping, but for the sake of resource sharing. A concept being used in a contractor's mod would create a grey area (At best) for similar ideas in free ones.

  21. Started my Ryzen build tonight. Exciting times. 1800X and 32GB RAM. Overkill? Perhaps, but I like to think of it as future proofing. My FX-8350 build has lasted me 4 years and is still going strong, so I imagine this one will be here for a good while. The sad part is going to be saving up for a GTX 1080 and rocking a 970 with this build.

Ought to wait for the Vega GPUs to come out and get one of those instead. Otherwise, yeah, I'm officially jealous of your upgrade :P

    4. Vincent

      Vincent

I might wait for one of those too. My GTX 970 is fine, and I'd rather not drop $500+ on a 1080.

  22. Any oldschool RPG fans here? You should check out LISA on steam. Really fantastic game made by just one guy that deserves more credit than it gets.

Just to warn you, it's pretty gory and rapey.

And also the worst depiction of BDSM until 50 Shades came along.

  23. Quite sad today to learn that Fox cancelled Sleepy Hollow after only 4 seasons. It really was the best show American TV has put out in a long time. If you are a fan of 'Twistory", supernatural, action, suspense, and comedy, I recommend you check this show out.

News to me, I thought it had been canceled after season 3 :P

Was a good show, but they kept it on hiatus so long I lost track of it.

Season 4 was excellent. Really a return to form for the show. Unfortunately, the damage season 2 and 3 did to the reputation was already done.
