  1. Looking for New Forum Software

See, the thing is, the software used by the community is an integral part of that community. That's why the one over at BGS fell apart when they yanked the foundation out from under it. first because of Jive, and then later because NodeBB wasn't an adequate replacement. Being able to post is sort of required isn't it? NodeBB makes it damn near impossible to do that correctly because they don't support bbcode at all and expect everything to be done by way of the wysiwyg editor.
  2. Looking for New Forum Software

Heh, that could be fun. How many of us here still remember using that regularly?
  3. Looking for New Forum Software

I'm with Leo on this one. If NodeBB is a serious contender, I'm out. It's bad enough that one site in the community chose it. We don't need more doing that Honestly, it sounds like you guys are ready to write your own software for the job. Vincent is correct that IPB is the best paid solution available right now. I was considering XenForo for AFK at one point until I tried the demo and found that to be complete crap that looked like children put it together.
  4. IP.Board 4.x Bugs

Cool. Seems like a bit of an overly aggressive security setup though. Is running PHP from unwanted folders really that big of a problem?
  5. IP.Board 4.x Bugs

So would this change in the folder structure be why images in the downloads area don't load?
  6. IP.Board 4.x - VERY SOON!

YeGods! So much whiteness! Anyway, for better or worse, good to see you finally powered through it.
  7. Qarl's Textures

  8. SSE Installation (Steam)

Valve has nothing to do with mods for SSE. Account linkage is not the same thing at all. Valve does not host the content, and I'm pretty sure you knew that's what I meant.
  9. SSE Installation (Steam)

Leo, that has absolutely nothing to do with whether or not compressed BSAs function properly in the game.
  10. SSE Installation (Steam)

Valve has nothing to do with SSE mods. Those are all served by Bethesda.net. The reason that USSEP is not compressed is because compressing the BSA leads to the game crashing due to the presence of voice recordings.
  11. IP.Board 4.x - VERY SOON!

Are they even still providing official support for upgrades off of 3.x this long after end of life?
  12. Bethesda.net Discussion

That pretty well sums it up I think. Especially after seeing plenty of the younger folks wondering why us veterans of forums hate the site so much now
  13. Bethesda.net Discussion

Jesus Christ, no, don't follow Bethesda into the abyss
  14. Bethesda.net Discussion

You could try looking at the source for NodeBB since that's what Bethesda.net is based on now. I kind of doubt they'd bother with any custom markdown changes.
  15. Bethesda.net Discussion

I've never known bbcode itself to be internally inconsistent. Such things are implementation details. All I know is that pretty much everyone on our site hates that they can't reliably use it anymore. Preformatted posts that used to work are suddenly breaking with the current 4.2.x series. Trying to deal with this crap as raw HTML is a major pain in the ass, especially when you have to jump through hoops to even allow non-admins to see post source code now. Ultimately the problem here is that IPB has abandoned their responsibility for the post editor to the CKEditor people, and they have the wild hair up their ass that bbcode should be killed so IPB is just along for the ride and doesn't seem to care.
  16. IP.Board 4.x - VERY SOON!

I doubt very much they didn't test it on upgrades from 3.x because that would be silly given that people would have been doing exactly that in large numbers. Hell, I didn't even do our upgrade until 4.1.x was available and I remember exactly nothing about the process. It was simply that uneventful. Or, in Toddspeak: "It just worked"
  17. Bethesda.net Discussion

I'd much rather see Markdown die the death it deserves and see the world go back to bbcode. There was nothing wrong with that. I've yet to see anyone even attempt to explain why bbcode is so bad that everyone wants to be rid of it.
  18. IP.Board 4.x - VERY SOON!

    Any idea why it failed?
  19. For good reason. It's actually a decent game with all of these content updates and patches.
  20. Bethesda.net Discussion

Personally I'm more worried that IPB may attempt to kill off BBCode entirely since their editor doesn't support it unless you insert it manually.
  21. Bethesda.net Discussion

It's some bastardized version of Markdown formatting. I've never been able to figure it out, partly because I have no idea how to work with Markdown at all and don't like it one bit. So I simply stopped posting threads on their site once I realized I couldn't get them to work.
  22. Creation Club and 1.5 Update

Yep. SKSE64 will almost certainly always require an update for each exe revision. Some people found some clever ways around having to do that with FO4 stuff that uses F4SE though so that their DLL mods didn't always need to be updated even when F4SE was. Maybe they'll share their secrets.
  23. Creation Club and 1.5 Update

It's a DLL file that claims to fix a universal issue with FPS drain if you install too many ESP files. The conditions under which it can be tested are suspiciously specific to just Riften though. Which suggests some other underlying cause. It's also not something that's universally a problem for a lot of people. Plus the file entry on Nexus is littered with people who confirm it either causes an even bigger performance drop, or crashes the game entirely. The lucky ones tend to find that it does nothing other than sit there. So I'm of the opinion it's largely a placebo fix and that people are simply accepting that Meh wouldn't have written it without a reason so they see what they think should be happening.
  24. Creation Club and 1.5 Update

Updates to the exe are unlikely to break anything. It's when the master files get updated along with it - like they did for Survival support - that you run into these problems. Basic growing pains during an update is all. Nothing the community hasn't been through before. As for "SSE Fixes" I am unconvinced as to the necessity of that one. The threshold for "too many esp files" is something I crossed 30 esp files ago and there is no sign of any performance problems as a result. I have similar accounts from numerous people all over the place who say the same thing so it is by no means any sort of universal solution and thus should not be used as a general fix.
  25. Creation Club and 1.5 Update

No, I've been running around testing stuff on the 1.5.3 update and there's no difference in performance that I can see.
