  1. Fallout 76... A Fallout spinoff developed by Bethesda Game Studios themselves. Strange. Very strange. You would think they would get someone like Obsidian to do it going by history and the fact that they're apparently so busy.

BGS is about 3x the size they were in 2010 so they have plenty of people throughout the company to handle doing this. Especially since it's pretty clear they recycled FO4 assets and probably the same engine too.

  2. I found the problem. No upgrade needed.

Pretty sure he's referring to the forum software and not the underlying server.

  3. We had to migrate to the new Linode server in Dallas and that has broken TAL again. I'm probably going to have to upgrade to IPB 4.x.

New server running PHP 7 then? I wondered what was up.

  4. So in the Elder Scrolls Legend Battlespire.. is the proper name "The Battlespire" or just Battlespire?

Just be prepared for a lot of trippy lore stuff based on what I've seen from screenshots :P

  5. There's a reason I NEVER update my video drivers... I've had problems every single time. I lost my PC for a while tonight until I restored a Windows restoration point. Fortunately I had one just before updating the drivers.

Dunno why this 10 year old rumor about AMD video drivers persists to this day, but it hasn't been an issue since at least 2007. I hear WAY more horror stories about how nVidia drivers break, and people were just up in arms about it on one of the forums again the other day.

  6. Bethesda announced Creation Club. Modders and 3rd party sources working with Bethesda directly. Mods need credits to be downloaded. Sounds like paid mods again.

Yes, I would call it DLC since it's being driven by a proper development cycle, QA'd, and sold officially via a storefront. That doesn't fit the definition of what we currently call mods.

The main reason they don't call it paid mods is because that's simply not what it is. Especially if you pay attention to the E3 trailer for it where they specifically mention outside developers, industry partners, AND community creators (that would be us modders). The first 2 g...

There's a very real difference between mods and contracted DLCs though, and that difference is the developer support and QA attention the stuff gets. You simply won't have that with regular mods.

Otherwise your logic breaks down entirely and even Dawnguard and Dragonborn are just mods. At some point one needs to acknowledge that things aren't the same anymore.

Read it a bit more closely, it's basically independent contracting work for official DLCs. I'd say it lies somewhere between making hats for TF2 and indie game development.

  10. Oblivion is on GOG, and in other news, Satan shopping for winter wear.

@Vorians: It recognized my video card and put the game into the highest quality settings. The original DVD image I'd been using had no idea what an RX 480 was. It also has a proper selection for the screen resolution, which I was previously having to put into the ini file by hand.

So they at least changed the official game launcher in addition to stripping out all of the DRM and they also applied the LAA flag to the oblivion.exe file.

  11. Started my Ryzen build tonight. Exciting times. 1800X and 32GB RAM. Overkill? Perhaps, but I like to think of it as future proofing. My FX-8350 build has lasted me 4 years and is still going strong, so I imagine this one will be here for a good while. The sad part is going to be saving up for a GTX 1080 and rocking a 970 with this build.

Ought to wait for the Vega GPUs to come out and get one of those instead. Otherwise, yeah, I'm officially jealous of your upgrade :P

The DVD did indeed have DRM, but not the type that prevented its use as an image.

The exe also had DRM that would check the validity, and if your image generating software sucked, it would trigger the DRM and stop the game from loading.

In any case, it sure beats putting up with it on Steam for anyone who went that route.

  15. Quite sad today to learn that Fox cancelled Sleepy Hollow after only 4 seasons. It really was the best show American TV has put out in a long time. If you are a fan of 'Twistory", supernatural, action, suspense, and comedy, I recommend you check this show out.

News to me, I thought it had been canceled after season 3 :P

Was a good show, but they kept it on hiatus so long I lost track of it.

  17. Going to buy an Apple iMac with Retina 4K display. I'll finally have a 4k monitor. :D

      Arthmoor

No worries. The new monitor I got is a welcome change in the same department. 2560x1440 instead of 1440x900. Now I can have a lot more on screen when working on stuff. Plus I can see all of the data windows in the CK properly too.

  19. Why doesn't Bethesda just hire the script extender guys and have those functions in their games from the start?

    1. Arthmoor

      Arthmoor

@Vincent: They kind of do already, but they can't anticipate the needs of the community either. So there will always been something more for the SKSE team to implement when modders need it.

  20. Why doesn't Bethesda just hire the script extender guys and have those functions in their games from the start?

    1. Arthmoor

      Arthmoor

It would not only cost money, but more money in the long run than someone on the Papyrus team writing a function they need.

Thing is, this has been explained before. They only put in what the game needs, and vanilla Skyrim didn't need the things SKSE added.

  21. Looking at the player numbers on Steam, Skyrim classic has 29k+ players right now while SSE has only 17k. That's not counting console numbers, but guess I'm releasing for both.

The SSE numbers will be a lot higher than that in a couple of months.

Eh, I think you're not giving it enough credit. I happen to think it's a pretty decent upgrade visually. Especially for those people who simply don't like hassling with ENB and the complications it causes.
