      Orphan Attachments   07/31/2018

I have been doing some housekeeping lately and I've noticed that I had a lot of orphaned attachments. Attachments get orphaned when the PM or post is deleted without removing the attachment first. Deleting a PM or post does not delete the attachment and the file or image remain on the server. I'd like to ask all members to go through their attachments and delete any attachments you don't need anymore or those that have been orphaned. Where can I get a list of my attachments? Click on your display name in the upper right corner of the forums and pick "My Attachments" from the drop-down list. How can I tell an attachment is orphaned? If the PM has been deleted, you'll see a message like this in your attachment list: Unfortunately there is no message if the post has been deleted, so please check your old posts. We do purge old birthday threads every once in a while. Also some hosted projects have been shut down, so you may have orphaned attachments on one of those locations. Thanks!

  1. TES Construction Set Crash

I'm getting a impassable crash from the Construction Set. All was fine (I use CSE, but for troubleshooting purposes have uninstalled it) and then I went through a dry period where I didn't launch it--maybe 3 or 4 weeks--and went to mod some yesterday and it always crashes when launching. In the meantime, I let my OS (Windows 10 CU) update as usual. I've done a fair bit of troubleshooting, including using a pristine root and data directory; fresh install of the CS; uninstalled video drivers; and the standard administrator launch plus various exe compatibility settings. I'm now wondering if a Windows update or driver is causing issues? Maybe a setting in the OS? So, does anyone else run the latest Win10 CU? Did you have trouble launching the CS? If so did you fix it and how? Google results are all older stuff. Most focus on d3d9.dll crashes--I don't use ENB, so that's not my issue.
  2. xEdit Override Without Conflict Question

I could be wrong, but I think the game merges Dialog Topic entries at load, it doesn't overwrite them. You should be good to go with not patching them.
  3. TES Construction Set Crash

I always use BSAopt. I haven't found a program I prefer to it, so it's my go to BSA packing and unpacking program. I've never had any issues with it. I think the problem this time was that I spit the textures BSA (which I've done before). It could be a packing problem, but the game runs fine with no issues.
  4. Gamespot Article: Debunking PC Myths

Yep. A magazine still being published. It's quite entertaining and informative.
  5. Gamespot Article: Debunking PC Myths

That was a good read. Plus it was written by old Maximum PC guys. Hear! Hear!
  6. Random Stuffz

Well, if you go the help route, you can keep what each worker knows to a minimum. Maybe have them do the heavy lifting, but Bruce, Alfred, and maybe Lucius, set everything up. "Hey, this is just a sophisticated entertainment center for my man cave. I need to get away from the wifey every so often."
  7. [RELz] BOSS

But, at roughly 20,000 mods in the Masterlist one would need some free time. Or a loong time to get it done. Or a team.
  8. Random Stuffz

Nope, nope. It was only him and Alfred doing the work.
  9. [RELz] BOSS

Interesting. So if some young, enterprising lad wanted to, he could go to work on the masterlist for LOOT and maybe shape it up for Oblivion?
  10. [RELz] BOSS

Yes Ma'am. I used LOOT for Skyrim the last time I played, and LOOT was much younger then. I'm wondering if it's matured in it's decision making. I've read that LO's are near-perfect for Skyrim with LOOT. I think it was written with Skyrim in mind.
  11. Random Stuffz

    Shoo! Good exercise though.
  12. Random Stuffz

I would not have guessed that. But, nice; well done. Did you do it by hand, or with the help of some heavy equipment?
  13. [RELz] BOSS

LOOT doesn't get as much "love" from the Oblivion community, does it? I know I tried LOOT once for Oblivion and will not go back to it. I basically had to custom rule my entire LO, except the DLC's and UP's. I would offer my services to alpha test BOSS when the time comes. I'm quite familiar with the in's and out's of BOSS. Keep BOSS alive.
  14. Random Stuffz

As in... took out a book from a library? Took out a part from a computer? I know: your wisdom teeth?
  15. Happy Birthday TAL!

Never seen it. I've seen The Simpsons, of course, but never Futurama.
  16. Happy Birthday TAL!

Ah, hence the "four more beers" Futurama clip you were searching for. Four more years, then.
  17. Happy Birthday TAL!

And, how old is TAL, exactly? Happy Birthday, though.
  18. Movie Quote Game

Mulan. I forgot all about that movie. It's quite a good movie. That's not one of the movies my brothers' kids watch every day.

15Mbps--nice. I was just asking because you mentioned you had DSL. I do too. Nowadays everyone has fiber, neat to see a fellow DSL'er. Of course, my speed is supposed to be 3Mbps, but I don't see that.
  20. Movie Quote Game

    The Emperor's New Groove?
  21. Updates and Announcements - May 2017

What's the speed of your DSL, AndalayBay? Are you rural? City?
  22. [RELz] BOSS

I guess when it comes down to it, I wouldn't know. Aside from some videogame scripting and AutoHotkey, I can't code. But, I assume Alenet can--he owns a software development company--so I was just repeating what I read somewhere. I've always loved your mods and tools, WrinklyNinja; take no offense from me. My fault. Let's get the thread back on track.
  23. Movie Quote Game

Reads like a comedy of some kind. I don't think it's this, but I throw it out there anyway: Monty Python and the Holy Grail.
  24. [RELz] BOSS

Yeah. You can tell that some tools are written by beginners--there are some very basic tools out there. And the opposite is true too--there are some complex tools out there (Bash, for example). I guess people want to make a mod, learn Oblivion scripting, then say "this is fun", then branch off into more traditional languages. Or they are students at school doing an assignment. Game scripting is a great stepping stone for programming. I wouldn't say that, I just had trouble reading the code. Certain coding styles are harder for me to read than others so I often need to reformat the code first. He was before me and there were some before him, not sure who. The data structures make interfacing with BOSS a bit difficult. I ran into this issue when I was updating the Dirty List Generator. Using the API, I kept hitting the size limits of the containers so I wound up having to forgo the API and access BOSS's internals directly and rewrite how some things were read in. Wasn't elegant so that's part of why I'm doing a bit of a rewrite. Well, Alenet once said that All Natural was poorly written (from the WrinklyNinja days, Andalay ) and it made me wonder if that (truth?) carried on to BOSS, LOOT, etc. He could be a professional programmer for all I know--he dabbled with HLSL as well, which is structured similarly to C# / C++. BOSS goes back to FCOM. It started as a tool to quickly order the rather large set of FCOM plugins. People come and go from the community. There are some old vets still around; some have moved on. Bethesda games foster a great community.
  25. [RELz] BOSS

Neat. So BOSS before you wasn't exactly the best example of clean, pretty code? Who were the old developers? WrinklyNinja?
