      Orphan Attachments   07/31/2018

I have been doing some housekeeping lately and I've noticed that I had a lot of orphaned attachments. Attachments get orphaned when the PM or post is deleted without removing the attachment first. Deleting a PM or post does not delete the attachment and the file or image remain on the server. I'd like to ask all members to go through their attachments and delete any attachments you don't need anymore or those that have been orphaned. Where can I get a list of my attachments? Click on your display name in the upper right corner of the forums and pick "My Attachments" from the drop-down list. How can I tell an attachment is orphaned? If the PM has been deleted, you'll see a message like this in your attachment list: Unfortunately there is no message if the post has been deleted, so please check your old posts. We do purge old birthday threads every once in a while. Also some hosted projects have been shut down, so you may have orphaned attachments on one of those locations. Thanks!

Yeah. You can tell that some tools are written by beginners--there are some very basic tools out there. And the opposite is true too--there are some complex tools out there (Bash, for example). I guess people want to make a mod, learn Oblivion scripting, then say "this is fun", then branch off into more traditional languages. Or they are students at school doing an assignment. Game scripting is a great stepping stone for programming. I wouldn't say that, I just had trouble reading the code. Certain coding styles are harder for me to read than others so I often need to reformat the code first. He was before me and there were some before him, not sure who. The data structures make interfacing with BOSS a bit difficult. I ran into this issue when I was updating the Dirty List Generator. Using the API, I kept hitting the size limits of the containers so I wound up having to forgo the API and access BOSS's internals directly and rewrite how some things were read in. Wasn't elegant so that's part of why I'm doing a bit of a rewrite. Well, Alenet once said that All Natural was poorly written (from the WrinklyNinja days, Andalay ) and it made me wonder if that (truth?) carried on to BOSS, LOOT, etc. He could be a professional programmer for all I know--he dabbled with HLSL as well, which is structured similarly to C# / C++. BOSS goes back to FCOM. It started as a tool to quickly order the rather large set of FCOM plugins. People come and go from the community. There are some old vets still around; some have moved on. Bethesda games foster a great community.

Neat. So BOSS before you wasn't exactly the best example of clean, pretty code? Who were the old developers? WrinklyNinja?
  3. [RELz] BOSS

Interesting. It's not pure, 100% C# or C++. You learned me, VM. So, as for a BOSS release, there won't be too many new features or functionality? Kind of a code swap and restructuring thing?
  4. Happy System Admin Appreciation Day!

Lol... you're making that up, right? Saying the last Friday in July sounds serious...
  5. Random Stuffz

I think that's exactly what I'm going to do, AndalayBay. Thanks again.
  6. I need to use a CD/DVD burner

IMGBURN. Free and feature-rich. Highly recommended from a guy who never plans on leaving a DVD-ROM/BluRay-ROM out of a build.

What is this "wxWidgets" and "CMake"? A programming guide of some sort? Helps to simplify UI coding (which I know can be task)? So, you're going to drop those and use Meson instead (which I'm assuming is the same type of thing, just easier to work with; tidier code; etc.?)? You're not totally rewriting BOSS, just making certain core enhancements? Do you have a changelog handy, by any chance? I'd love to see what changes you've made so far and plan to in the future.
  8. [RELz] BOSS

You seem like you get sidetracked easily You ought to get the core written and stable, then write UI stuff. I'm not too proficient in software development, so what do I know...
  9. Random Stuffz

Well I decided to reinstall Skyrim after 3 or 4 years, so when I start going through the Nexus and various Skyrim forums for load order ideas I'll be sure to grab SkyUI and it's SDK. Thanks for the info though, AndalayBay. Aside from pirating, CS4 is pay to play, right?
  10. Random Stuffz

Has anyone developed a tool to edit SWF files? I mean a Skyrim community type tool? From the community? Kind of a thing?
  11. Random Stuffz

3.0, you say? A major update, you say? Excellent! Paint.net? I'll have to Google that one.
  12. Random Stuffz

Oh, I think I've read something about the newest photoshop... it's tied into the cloud. Monthly fee. Pah! I guess Photoshop is good. People call editing photos "Photoshopping" them. What can it do that GIMP can't?
  13. Movie Quote Game

That is an obscure quote. Never heard of that movie.
  14. Random Stuffz

How much is Photoshop, anyway? Most people pirate it, I'm sure. I like GIMP. Of course, it's all I've ever used, so I can't compare it to anything.
  15. TES Construction Set Crash

Alrighty. The culprit in this conundrum has been found. Let me share it with the fine members of this community: the Textures bsa was causing the crash. I run a custom bsa, and for some reason it was causing the CS (E) to crash. It's nothing I haven't done before. But something was off this time. So, to solve the problem, I just put the vanilla textures bsa in the data folder, renamed it and set it to load in the CS's INI. All is good. I would like to thank those who tried to help for their input. There's a great community housed here on TAL. Maybe this thread will help someone in the future.
  16. TES Construction Set Crash

Yeah. I've tried the batch file that is supplied with CSE and my own shortcut: nothing doing. By TCSOld, I mean the old executable (version 1.0 of the CS) launches! It's bundled with CSE. CS 1.2, CS 1.2 + OBSE crashes. CS 1.0 ("TESConstructionSetOld.exe") launches. Haha. Now that's some weird shit if you ask me.
  17. TES Construction Set Crash

Let me share something I find odd: I just did some tidying--not expecting much--installed CSE 8.0, launched "TESConstructionSetOld.exe", and it loaded/launched! But, launching via "TESConstructionSet.exe" or through "obse_loader.exe" results in a crash. Very odd, I say.
  18. TES Construction Set Crash

Yeah. Module is "TESConstructionSet.exe"; reason is Access Violation "0xc0000005". I'm currently troubleshooting without CSE--just plain old, vanilla CS. You mean the obse_editor.log file? I'm trying without OBSE right now just to keep it most basic. But, no, it didn't have any useful info. Or did you mean something else by "Windows log"? Event Viewer stuff is above--the helpful stuff, at least. I did delete the CS ini. As of now, it's not getting to the point in loading where it generates a new one. I also deleted Oblivion.ini and started fresh from there. No gold. I'm going OBSE-free right now to troubleshoot. I always install games outside of UAC directories. "C:\Games\" to be precise.
  19. Missing Mages' Robes

What's this "invisibility robe.esp?" Maybe it's intentional? Wild guess. I'd say uninstall everything related to robes and install again one by one, launching Oblivion after each install.
  20. Oblivion Reloaded Compatibility Questions

Yes. From what I've read, it will break ObXP. It could be an easy fix, I don't know. I don't run ObXP so don't really look into fixing things with it.
  21. Is there any way of not playing Knights of the Nine?

I've never had any compatibility issues with OR. In fact, the only mod I've ever read about (besides direct conflicts, as in mods that do the same thing OR does) that conflicts is OblivionXP. I run a heavier load order too (as do most Oblivion modders). The EquipmentMode is buggy--I'd say just straight up disable it from the get-go--but there is nothing that does what it does in the community. @Bongmongus: Test OR. Give it a shot. If nothing else, it improves performance when running a heavily modded game. You can just turn off most of it's features if they don't interest you.
  22. Movie Quote Game

Yeah. It's definitely a Wizard of Oz movie. Maybe that newer one with James Franco.
  23. [RELz] BOSS

True. I must apologize for the distraction.
  24. [RELz] BOSS

Well, it's a nice rig for 2008, 2009. Yeah, I'm doubting you'd be able to play anything recent-ish of the AAA variety. My guess is your last upgrade were the SSD's? You may need a full overhaul to play GTA 5. This is a great time to buy most PC components, what with Ryzen out shaking up Intel's pricing. Skylake-X; Kaby Lake-X (Boo); Threadripper soon? Great times.
  25. [RELz] BOSS

6GB, eh? I'm just going by the industry with my facts and figures, but 6GB is pushing it for modern AAA titles like Deus Ex: Mankind Divided, Battlefield 1, etc. I don't doubt you can play the games, but I'm guessing a couple extra Gigs will reduce stuttering, hitching, etc. -- just general smoothness and responsiveness. But, you would know before me, I'm running 16GB. I guess it just depends on what you play. Old 32-bit games can only address 4GB at most, so those games should be smooth. But break out a 64-bit'er... there could be performance issues. What games do you play? What's some of the specs on your rig?
