      Orphan Attachments   07/31/2018

I have been doing some housekeeping lately and I've noticed that I had a lot of orphaned attachments. Attachments get orphaned when the PM or post is deleted without removing the attachment first. Deleting a PM or post does not delete the attachment and the file or image remain on the server. I'd like to ask all members to go through their attachments and delete any attachments you don't need anymore or those that have been orphaned. Where can I get a list of my attachments? Click on your display name in the upper right corner of the forums and pick "My Attachments" from the drop-down list. How can I tell an attachment is orphaned? If the PM has been deleted, you'll see a message like this in your attachment list: Unfortunately there is no message if the post has been deleted, so please check your old posts. We do purge old birthday threads every once in a while. Also some hosted projects have been shut down, so you may have orphaned attachments on one of those locations. Thanks!

  1. Towards a lightweight Unique Landscapes

I was thinking more of a fast i-5 vs spending additional money for an i-7. There may be other reasons for spending more for an i-7 but if you just want to run older games a good i-5 seems just as good as an i-7 and a fair bit cheaper.
  2. Towards a lightweight Unique Landscapes

Wait, I thought Oblivion mostly only uses one core physical core and would not use any virtual cores at all? So I always understood that for Oblivion you wanted a CPU that ran fast on one core and the number of physical and virtual cores and the CPU’s ability to multi-thread was largely irrelevant, since Oblivion would not use any of that anyway.
  3. "Elsweyr Mods Cleaned and Merged"

It wasn't "digging". Someone recently pointed this out to me on another forum in reference to a Skyrim mod dispute between members of a well known modding team that have been working on a big update for the past year, including merging one modder's prior published add-on work into the main mod, when the big update to the main mod got delayed because of an internal dispute about permissions for the main mod and the modder with the prior published add-on revoked his permission for it to be included in the main mod unless the main mod team agreed to open up permissions for the main mod. As you can imagine, this caused quite a stir and I was following that discussion (like watching a train wreck in slow motion) when someone else quoted Wrye's Cathedral/Parlor distinction, which I then read in its entirety (I had made similar arguments before but not with Wrye's elegance). Then, later that same day I mentioning Cathedral modding in this thread and mentioned Wrye and his reason for leaving, and my comments were based solely on what I had just read in Wrye Musings. So, it wasn't "digging", or at least I can not claim the credit for the "digging" skills here, since someone else did the digging and brought it to my attention. It is a distinction made by Wrye (author of Wrye Bash) relating to mod permissions. You can read it here.

Well, if you want to learn about firearms, my real life buddy Joe Grine, who also talked me into going to Burningman, is quite the expert. But all that with Wrye leaving was before my time — I was more into Burningman back then than video games, and Wrye was already gone before I started gaming. So all I know is what I read in Wrye Musings. I released the LGNPC Seyda Neen, Ivza decided to pull Amulet of Scrye from public distribution. To me, that felt like the glazier coming into the Cathedral, pulling out the stained glass window that he had put in earlier, and taking it home with him. But for Ivza, I think that it was just a closing of his parlor door. It was this, combined with very vocal support for the parlor view on the forum, that led me to retire. I had several ongoing projects and there were several items that I would have liked to continue working on, but it seems like the Parlor view is predominant – and personally I don't find it that inspiring.
  5. "Elsweyr Mods Cleaned and Merged"

I’d be totally agreeable to her stipulation regarding quests. One of my mods is similar in that it is totally separate and only uses hers and Onra’s as a master. Another one fills in a bunch of empty spaces in Corinthe. In reading Fienix’s comments on Nexus it appears his (now deleted) mod took a different approach to resolving conflicts with Elsweyr 2014 and Pieto’s City Extension. Fienix deleted the Elsweyr 2014 changes that caused the conflict. I like Iliana’s work too much to just delete it for the sake of conflict resolution so my approach was a bit different. I unlocked the door to the new section of Corinthe she added and flushed out all three sections by adding new doors and decorations in the exterior spaces and linking them to Pieto’s interiors, finishing the empty interiors the same way, moving the AI markers, relocating Pieto’s sewer entrances, and finally adding clutter to all the spaces Pieto left undone. So my version of City Extension has all of Iliana’s work but with empty spaces filled in using Pieto’s interiors and NPCs, plus some of my own interior and exterior decorations. It’s not intended as a permanent fix to Corinthe, only a temporary patch to make the whole city playable until Iliana comes back and finishes it herself. I do hope she comes back soon as Elsweyr is probably my favorite mod from any game, or at least in the top three. I’d like to see her complete it.

Yeah I don’t want to debate either. Other than Requiem tweaks, I only mod for my own use nowadays anyway. After Bethesda’s old forum went dark and everyone went their separate ways, I lost interest in debating and with the economy humming along now, I‘ve no time for debate anymore anyway. Since then, with what little free time I have, I’ve mostly moved on to other hobbies anyway (like gunsmithing, if you want to debate the merits of striker-fired vs DA/SA, send me a link to an appropriate thread and I’ll throw down). I only commented in this thread because I do have a bunch of Elsweyr stuff that I might release if Iliana ever returned. Kind of ironic though that the most vocal proponent of the “parlor modders” crowd that drove Wrye away is also the most vocal proponent of the mod manager he left behind. Guess we have that in common. We both love Wrye Bash. Peace.
  7. "Elsweyr Mods Cleaned and Merged"

Well other than unused parts of Corinthe, most of the unused areas I am filling in are on the Valenwood side of the border where she may not want to expand anyway, but I would not mind if she wanted to reclaim the real estate at some point since I am sure she would do a better job than I could of filling in unused areas. But at least it would give people something to do in those areas while waiting. It was four years from the 2010 version before she came back and added Rimmon and in another couple months it will have been another four years since the 2014 version. Maybe that means she is due to resurface soon.
  8. "Elsweyr Mods Cleaned and Merged"

That's too bad about what happened to Iliana on Nexus. That was a bit before my time, but I have read about it. The ironic thing is that I would not want to change anything about her creative vision -- her creative vision is awesome, and that's one reason I don't use Tales, since it departs too much from her creative vision for my tastes. The only things I have done are fix bugs and conflicts and fill in areas left undone, but I won't go against her wishes and release it until she comes back and says its okay.
  9. "Elsweyr Mods Cleaned and Merged"

Personally, I agree with you. I think the modding community would be better off if we had "Cathedral" modding instead of "Parlor" modding as Wrye argued for many years ago, and I have often cited Burningman as an example where artists from across the globe come together to build a "cathedral" of sorts for a week in the desert, but anytime I argue TES modding should be like that, I get shouted down by a cacophony of Fus Ro Dahs. So I have given up and mostly create mods just for myself since most of my work depends on the work of others to a degree and many of those others are no longer around to grant permission.
  10. "Elsweyr Mods Cleaned and Merged"

I’ve got a bunch of Elsweyr stuff, a UOP patch to stop the flickering Aylied ruins in Alabaster, an updated City Extension, and some other bug fixes (mostly floating rocks and trees that are fixed), plus a good portion of a Falinesti tree city done, but it’s all just for me since Iliana has not responded to my message in over a year. Edit: I never cared for “Tales” though. Didn’t seem to fit with the original vision well and my game always crashed around the wizards tower, so I don’t use Tales anymore.
  11. I am afraid I've bad news to share and that means both fixed the Better Clothes plugins needs to be uploaded here, because soon my site is gonna be inaccessible due to my host have sold their web hotel business to another Swedish hosting company. I think it would be best if you upload it here instead of me, since you maintain this thread are you not. And I don't want to move on to the new company, which are gonna to be later this year and the last October I need to cancel my web hotel with my current host. Besides I've been thinking for quite some time to actually stop paying the cost for a web hotel next year and only pay the fee for my domain. It's your mod, do you want to upload it here? I can link it once you get it uploaded. I could upload it if you want but I am having issues with my internet at home and I can't upload it from work. I just uploaded it: http://www.theassimilationlab.com/forums/files/file/1383-better-clothes-11/ Awesome. Thanks. I just updated the OP with the new link.

  13. Creation Club and 1.5 Update

Yes, sorry, I should have said updates to the exe and masters for the latest round of issues people were complaining about, although if I am not mistaken, updates to the exe alone will typically require any dll files people may be using to be updated, including the new SKSE64 alpha.
  14. Creation Club and 1.5 Update

The update broke SSE Fixes so that may have been the genesis of those posts, since you can get bad FPS if you are using too many esp files without SSE Fixes. Meh321 just released an update of SSE Fixes today, so that problem is now solved. Any update to the Skyrim.exe can break existing mods which will then need to be updated to deal with the changes to the exe. So if you are in the middle of a game when the exe updates you may want to hold off until all the mods you are using have been updated, so you can update everything at once. Otherwise you may be stuck waiting for a particular mod to update before you can continue playing, which may be a short or a very long wait depending on the mod. Not everyone understands this, so there have been a few threads I have seen started by people whose game ran into issues because they updated the Skyrim.exe for the CC but some of the mods they were using hadn't been updated and their game stopped working as a result. If you wait to update until all of the mods you are currently using have been updated and then update everything at once, instead of updating piecemeal, you shouldn't have any issues.
  15. Oblivion Reloaded Compatibility Questions

I am curious what OR does exactly. I mean I know it makes water look much better and overall makes the graphics look nicer, and adds horse combat, but I have also read some rather vague things about stability and performance improvements, but I haven't been able to understand exactly what it does in that regard and whether it really is compatible with ENBoost or if you are better off choosing one or the other. Admittingly, I have trouble understanding the author since he talks on a different plane than I do, but I have had a hard time deciphering whether and to what extent OR will improve performance and stability in a heavily modded game. I tried it a while back but decided to wait for it to be finished, and now am trying to decide if it is worth it for me to join his site to download. I have a heavily modded game and would be more interested in performance enhancements than graphical enhancements. I use Realistic Leveling so no issues there ( I hope). You should read the description; it can tell you better than anyone. I will say, for me, it's performance enhancements are negligible. But he has some settings for a performance boost that I, admittedly, don't use. Thanks. I have read the description before but it was a while ago when he was using the Nexus. From what I remember it had a ton of different features, but most of them were not things that particularly interested me, other than the possibility of a stability/performance improvement. I have visited his new site but I can't find basic mod information there -- I am sure he has a description somewhere but I couldn't find it. That new site has a lot of information scattered around, but I have trouble navigating it to find where the basic information is posted. But if the performance boost is negligible than I may not worry about it. I was mostly interested in whether it would lead to a better performing more stable game. If your post was a comment about my post then you misunderstood me, because I thought Turija wanted to use OR at the same time he had Realistic Leveling active. Yep! Thanks for pointing out the potential issue there and thanks to the folks who explained that OR works fine with RL. Good to know in case I ever do decide to install OR again.
