      Orphan Attachments   07/31/2018

I have been doing some housekeeping lately and I've noticed that I had a lot of orphaned attachments. Attachments get orphaned when the PM or post is deleted without removing the attachment first. Deleting a PM or post does not delete the attachment and the file or image remain on the server. I'd like to ask all members to go through their attachments and delete any attachments you don't need anymore or those that have been orphaned. Where can I get a list of my attachments? Click on your display name in the upper right corner of the forums and pick "My Attachments" from the drop-down list. How can I tell an attachment is orphaned? If the PM has been deleted, you'll see a message like this in your attachment list: Unfortunately there is no message if the post has been deleted, so please check your old posts. We do purge old birthday threads every once in a while. Also some hosted projects have been shut down, so you may have orphaned attachments on one of those locations. Thanks!

Oblivion XP Update

Version 4.4.5

Oblivion XP Update is a full update to SirFrederik's Oblivion XP mod. It has several bug fixes and script optimizations that utilize the new features and functions available in the newer versions of Oblivion Script Extender. This version offers significant performance improvements over the previous versions.

This is a complete self-contained package. It does not require the original Oblivion XP - everything is included in this update. This is being released as an upgrade to the original Oblivion XP mod because the changes are quite extensive and with most of the scripts being completely rewritten.

Existing users will be able to install this update and continue with your current games. You should not lose the progress you have made. You will need to follow the upgrade instructions in the readme file because the location and contents of the ini file have been changed.

For those unfamiliar with Oblivion XP, it is a levelling system replacement. The Oblivion levelling system is based on skill use to improve the skills themselves and their associated attributes. However, for many players this has turned out to be a tedious exercise that forced them to use skills that did not fit their roleplaying experience in order to improve certain attributes. It also required a certain degree of "micromanagement" if you wished to get the maximum attribute bonuses when you increased in level.

Oblivion XP aims to change all that. It brings the experience point reward system to Oblivion. You gain experience points for performing a variety of actions, including completing quests, killing monsters, picking locks or discovering new locations. When you accumulate enough experience points, you will gain a new level. Upon gaining the new level, you spend points to increase your attributes and skills. You no longer improve your skills by using them. You earn experience points by action and spend an allotted number of points on skills and attributes to improve them, anyway you wish, when you level-up.

SirFrederik is the original author of this mod. He devised the mathematical formulae that control the number of points you need to level and the number of experience points you receive for various actions. The system he designed is complete and operates as a balanced and comprehensive unit. I will not be altering any of this underlying logic. He also made Oblivion XP extremely customizable through settings in the ini file so that this system would work with a variety of playing styles.

Important Notes

Oblivion XP 4.2.0+ requires OBSE 21 Beta 3 or above. shadeMe has added a custom event handler that allows major performance improvements over the previous versions. It also requires MenuQue version 15 or newer.

See the readme file (Oblivion XP Readme.pdf) in the download for the installation instructions, a full description of all the changes and other important notes.

Friends of Oblivion XP

Friends of Obivion XP is a prestigious group of mods in which the mod authors have taken the time to build Oblivion XP support into their mod!

When you complete quests in these mods, you will be awarded experience points. Oblivion XP only has a small amount of work to do to process these points, so performance is greatly improved. Also, this code is only run for mods that you actually have loaded and if the mod author changes the mod, you will get those changes as soon as you download the new version of the mod!

New beta is up: http://www.theassimilationlab.com/forums/files/file/762-oblivion-xp/

This one includes support for all quests! All quests will now award a small number of points. Quests with built-in support, patches or mods with Oblivion XP support included will award points customized to the difficulty of the quest, as has always been the case. See the change log on the download page for a full description of all the changes.

I just tested the undocumented quests with Arcane Bank.  I did get 480 exp for completing the first quest.  It does seem to be working!

I wasn't able to figure out how to upload a screen shot, but I did take one.

New beta is up: http://www.theassimilationlab.com/forums/files/file/762-oblivion-xp/

I have fixed the infinite point bug and the run-on quest condition that caused it. It turns out the problem was due to a script in the Unofficial Oblivion Patch. Arthmoor is aware of the issue and the UOP will be fixed later in the year. I detect the run-on quest condition and explicitly stop the Sanguine Daedric quest that was causing it.

So Unique Landscapes is a friend of Oblivion XP? Awww... :D I need to add Better Cities to the list as well.

Thanks Vorians.

Cliffs of Anvil is, and when Eastern Peaks gets an update (very soon) it will also be friendly. Better Cities is only theoretically friendly as we still haven't had a release where the XP actually works - we sorted it ages ago as you tested and confirmed, simply haven't finished working on the new content for the next update, so nobody gets to have any BC XP yet.

Ok, that's what I thought. I thought that perhaps I had missed the announcement. Poke me once it's been released and I'll announce it.

Thanks V!

I've grabbed the update.

Now that I've had a chance to observe how the stealing exp works in game, that is a really good change.

I also like the way bribery gives exp now.

(continued from Nexus posts)

I have deleted OBSE_kyoma_menuque.dll, but as I'm using version 16a, isn't that just a dummy file anyway?

It's not actually hanging, it's crashing straight to desktop. That is, I click "level up", then the game crashes, and I get an error message and my desktop.

Hey CiB, welcome to TAL!

Yeah, it's just a dummy file but I thought I'd try it anyway.

That is weird. I've never heard of it CTD'ing that way. Ok, I'll poke Kyoma and see if he has any ideas. At one point he had put together a comprehensive debug build and we might need to pull that out.

You might want to follow this thread so you get an email notification when a reply is posted. Otherwise I'd say to check back over the next couple of days.

I can't replicate this. I just set up a new game instance and installed all my mods, including DarkUId DarN, using BAIN. I'm running OBSE 21 beta 4 and MenuQue 16a. I was able to level-up just fine.

Perhaps you could post your load order. Maybe I can spot something. Kyoma did say he'd have a look.

One more thing: which version of Dark UI did you pick? The one called Dark UI is NOT DarkUId DarN. The dark version of DarNified UI is called DarkUId DarN. The one called Dark UI is the dark version of BT Mod, which is quite different. Basically it's a dark version of vanilla.

Not sure how to get the whole load order into the normal format I usually see it posted.

However, I have tried to level up (and got a crash to desktop) with just Oblivion.esm and oblivion xp.esp loaded (as deactivating everything else to see if it works then is usually one of the first things I do when checking for mod conflicts that wrye bash hasn't found on it's own)

EDIT- on UI I've installed the DarkUid DarN folder of oblivion xp (which is the UI I have installed)

See here for instructions on posting your load order.

Deactivating your mods like that when you're having menu related problems won't help. The menu files are still present and you've just removed the module that interacts with them, so you'll still crash.

It might be more useful for you to post your installation order. If you've been using BAIN, then just right-click on the Package heading in the Installers tab and pick List Packages... Wrye Bash will copy that to your clipboard so all you need to do is paste it into your post. It even includes the spoiler tags for you. :)

My bain order won't be much use- my Oblivion installation goes back a long time, and so most of my mods were installed before you could use BAIN to install mods...

Here's the load order though. I've another two (thanks to the wonder of save profiles) that also don't work. Mainly the difference is what quest mods are active.

At this point, I'd try uninstalling Oblivion XP and reinstalling DarkUId DarN. See if you can load your game. If so, spam some skills to force a level-up and see if that works.

I think you've got some kind of instability in there somewhere and Oblivion XP has triggered it, but I don't think Ob XP is the cause. We had one other user on Nexus report that OBGE doesn't play nice with OBSE 21 Beta 4, but that was just a drop in fps and that's the first I've heard of an issue like that.

I don't see anything else in your load order that would cause an issue. You've got some old mods that should probably be replaced by newer mods. Living Economy in particular (replace with Enhanced Economy).

Please try the uninstallation and vanilla levelling trick and see if that works.

In terms of OBGE- I'm not even getting a drop in frame rate from it. And with the old version of Ob XP working fine with all my mods (as the last change I made was upgrading from 4.1.9).

I did uninstall Ob XP and reinstalled the UI and (using the console) advanced skills so I could level up the vanilla way. It did work (as did levelling up using version Ob XP version 4.1.9 before I upgraded.)

Thank you for the tip on enhanced economy- I'll go hunting.
