      Orphan Attachments   07/31/2018

I have been doing some housekeeping lately and I've noticed that I had a lot of orphaned attachments. Attachments get orphaned when the PM or post is deleted without removing the attachment first. Deleting a PM or post does not delete the attachment and the file or image remain on the server. I'd like to ask all members to go through their attachments and delete any attachments you don't need anymore or those that have been orphaned. Where can I get a list of my attachments? Click on your display name in the upper right corner of the forums and pick "My Attachments" from the drop-down list. How can I tell an attachment is orphaned? If the PM has been deleted, you'll see a message like this in your attachment list: Unfortunately there is no message if the post has been deleted, so please check your old posts. We do purge old birthday threads every once in a while. Also some hosted projects have been shut down, so you may have orphaned attachments on one of those locations. Thanks!

[IDEA/REQ] Need help to create a mod editor for RTW

Recommended Posts

The last few days I spent some time working on my personal modifications for Rome TW - Barbarian Invasion and this little project of mine have I work on and off for the last 1-3 years (I don't remember exactly when I started this).

Anyway, during this time I have gradually got more experience and knowledge of how things works, and must be in order to work, so the other day I got an idea of how to make a mod editor that will work for both RTW (Imperial campaign) and BI (Barbarian Invasion).

You see, almost everything you see on the campaign map can be found in .txt files, which makes Rome TW very easy to mod and despite that CA couldn't offer official modding tools to the community back then when Rome TW came out over 10 years ago.

If it weren't for Vercingetorix's modding tools then advanced mods would probably be easy to count.  I know there is an advanced modding tool called Rome Tool available, but the version I got is French and I don't know French or even understand French. :(

At this point I know the basic of how things works and why something must be like this or that, I mean why a line needs to be written as it is in those .txt files, and I also know why I got a CTD and how to change it unless I undo my changes.

However, while it's easy to change a thing or two it's also easy to edit the wrong .txt file without knowning you're doing that before it's too late.

So now you know what my idea is all about and that's create to a special text editor when modding Rome TW, especially the start positions (start.pos is a common acronym in the TW modding community) for playable factions.  I am willing to learn more about programming, but also eager to do the extensive testing it might required before it can be released.

Thanks for reading. :)
