      Orphan Attachments   07/31/2018

I have been doing some housekeeping lately and I've noticed that I had a lot of orphaned attachments. Attachments get orphaned when the PM or post is deleted without removing the attachment first. Deleting a PM or post does not delete the attachment and the file or image remain on the server. I'd like to ask all members to go through their attachments and delete any attachments you don't need anymore or those that have been orphaned. Where can I get a list of my attachments? Click on your display name in the upper right corner of the forums and pick "My Attachments" from the drop-down list. How can I tell an attachment is orphaned? If the PM has been deleted, you'll see a message like this in your attachment list: Unfortunately there is no message if the post has been deleted, so please check your old posts. We do purge old birthday threads every once in a while. Also some hosted projects have been shut down, so you may have orphaned attachments on one of those locations. Thanks!

I kind of stumbled on this mod tonight. I was on the original team. People started jumping ship and I stayed with a few to oversee the new team, but I looked in the credits and didn't recognize many, if any (this was many years ago) names. I guess a few more good people took the reigns. I'm glad to see it was finished with great acclaim, and more glad to see a sequel in the works. I'm just sad we no longer have thedarkbrotherhood.com, because that domain is now worth 2grand! It was a home for me, the people were family. It's been at least 7 or 8 years. Such nostalgia. I don't even know what to say, I feel like I'm one of the teams forgotten ancestors, but remembered through contribution of thoughts written to words creating a story. I'm so pleased to see it survived, produced beautifully, and is on to greater things. I feel like a proud parent. You were all able to do what I couldnt, to carry on with dedication, skill and knowledge unbeknownst to me. Skyrim was still only a twinkle in Bethesda''s eye. To the memories, to the future, Hail Sithis!

Thank you for the sentiment, Nicholas. We've had some schedule compatibility (and lots of health) issues this year, but once we can get a few meetings done to discuss how to implement laid out plans, we should have smoother sailing. I'm confident that the sequel will be to your liking.

Hello Nicolas! Do you know Amadaun? I think Amadaun was part of the second team. She carried the mod through a couple more teams. I joined in 2010. I had a lot of modding experience and am a scripter, so we managed to get Awakening done in late November, 2011, just after Skyrim's release.

Amadaun, it's been far to long! It's so great that you stayed after all of these years! This absolutely has made my summer a great one!

AndalayBay, you all wrapped up the project in just a year?! That's a lot of dedicated members to pull that off!

I know the first two teams had pulled together a decent amount of work over a long time, but I'm afraid the health issues you guys have been troubled with (I'm sorry to hear that Cray) had plagued us time and time again too. Maybe there is a curse on this project because misfortune lands on members more random than finding M'aiq! It only shows all of your perseverance though because you have finished, in great time, with a product I never imagined when we first started!

Not really. All the writing had been done - that's the hardest part, imo. The quests were written, they just needed to be coded up, which is what I do. I rewrote the mod in four months in terms of redoing the coding that had been done already (it was really bad, I'm afraid :lmao:) and Amadaun, Vincent and I redid the level design. In addition to Ama and Vincent, we had a couple of others supplying some custom weapons, books and clutter items. Then I coded up the quests. We were hoping to finish before Skyrim was released, but had some forum drama to contend with when we had to relocate to a new site that I set up for DBC. As it was, we released a couple of weeks later. We earned Nexus' file of the month for December, 2011.

Forum drama struck again in the summer of 2012, I think? and I had to leave the site I had set up and set up TAL. DBC was moved yet again and here we are.

In terms of Consequences, we've got the basic story written, we just need to turn it into quests. As I said, that's the hard part and real life is making it hard to work on mods right now. I'm doing a major house reno which means I can't even get at my game PC most of the time and Cray and Ama have had health issues and other stuff keeping them busy. We'll get back to it eventually.

Well no matter how long it takes, as long as the legacy lives on! Ah the forum drama, it never ceases. I like to believe it's sort of like how people can be super nice to friends, but bash their family members because in the end they are stuck family and need to forgive and carry on. This family has to stick together to complete a piece of amazing multi media, so even when some clash they're stuck together to get things done! If I can help in anyway, with working with the team, or just helping boost morale on the forums, I'm here for you all. I wish I could complete the soundtrack I started almost a decade ago and continue recording sfx but I no longer have access to a studio. I could always make low quality recordings to hand to someone with the resources to record! Like who would of thought using sliced in half cabbage banged on a piece of slate would sound like a barefoot Argonian walking around the sanctuary?! Lol

As soon as we can get the aforementioned meeting underway, I remain ready to beat the everloving daylights out of my schedule to accomodate marathon writing all the quests. With the plot laid out and the feedback thread seeming to have as much activity as it'll get, I've got a direction in mind and no shortage of ideas. Particularly for a lot of the original NPCs, whom I'm wanting to give adequate spotlight and character development time while keeping the PC the protagonist.

I remember you, friend. I went by Swiftblade back then. I had joined the team in 2007 as the new webmaster for thedarkbrotherhood.com, and I eventually picked up modelling and level design once the team started to die off. AndalayBay came along in our darkest hour and really saved the project. I actually ended up leaving the team for reasons I won't get into here. I only recently rejoined.

Good to back. Glad you're back too. Hopefully the stars will align or something and we can get this thing started again.

It seems to be the will of Sithis! I'll push my limits and do everything to keep supporting this dev team to keep the legacy going. I know I can't do much of the intricate technical modding, but since we've last spoke I've gotten a written work published, and hope my growth in writing literature helps! I mean, I should at least write an in game book for these dark brothers and sisters right?!

Writing in game books and such would be a very nice help. And since I'll be using NPCs that used to be personal characters of sorts, I'm always up for chatting with people to see what kind of direction they'd like me to give them in quests. (Such as Vincent's character getting a special role, or a certain priest's upcoming role for both sides of Consequences)

In game books I can get started with literally now. I'll give you a bunch of writings so you can pick and choose what you like. NicholastheWanderer comes from my interest in famous hermits, like where I live we had a hermit called the leatherman, and I visit his grave every catholic holiday (he was a Catholic french immigrant). If you would like me to write up a story on my original charachter personal for DB I can! His name was Da-Kari, or the wanderer in English (argonian language of Jel). He was a hermit, considered a member of the DB, but played the role of eyes and ears. Let me know if there's a page you'd like me to post his story on or if you'd like a pm.

I'll definitely get in touch on PM, that sounds great. Working in tandem should significantly reduce development time due to minimizing the amount of time after the quests are done to go back and write in-game books, skill books and the like. And we'll probably have a lot of fun writing the Black Horse Courier articles.

Of particular interest are your sfx skills, as your abilities in that department are bound to be in quite the demand.

Nicolas, you've been added to the team, so you can use the various writing forums to exchange ideas now, if you like. You can also read up on the story for Consequences and Transgressions. Yes, we are planning on a third instalment that will take place in Skyrim.

Cray is also a published author, so this will be really interesting. :D

Welcome aboard Nicolas!

Ah, my publishing is but a humble contribution. I do intend to keep it up and get substantial material out there, but I want to focus on current projects — Which means y'all take first place in my writing priorities.

Thank you sincerely for including me into the folds. I look forward to sharing ideas and helping out. I've merely published some poetry, my other works I never put out on the table. I'm excited to work with a professional writer who can teach me more about the art!

I had applied to work on the "Beyond Skyrim" mod, before I found this forum. Our mod here however is exponentially more important to me. Their mod is a massive project, and I think it would be very neat if we could, after working on our pieces, give them advice on DB quests they could include. Their mod adds every province of tamriel to skyrim, each custom made by a team. I applied to work on Black Marsh, and want to make sure they don't forget the Brotherhood''s involvement with the An-Xileel and add the ruins of the shadowscale training facility in Archon. They won't finish for years though, some of their landmass sizes are insane, because skyrim is relatively small compared to most other provinces.

At first read I thought, "Do they have a spouse named Nicholas as well?" Then I clicked the link! I'll have you know I've gone by that many many harvests before your friend the traveler existed! I wish it was my gamertag, which is now an ongoing juke due to my mistranslation of German. It's Schweinbaum, in which I assumed it would be interpreted as Pig's Tree, but I forgot the s at the end of Schwein and now it's equivalent to this link my buddy sent me. https://images.google.com/imgres?imgurl=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.spiffystudios.com%2Fimages%2Fpigtree-shirt.jpg&imgrefurl=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.spiffystudios.com%2Fpigtree-shirt%2F&docid=AvcCJWbXhTniPM&tbnid=dHNZJ9I4fw-BYM%3A&w=700&h=390&hl=en-us&source=sh%2Fx%2Fim
