      Orphan Attachments   07/31/2018

I have been doing some housekeeping lately and I've noticed that I had a lot of orphaned attachments. Attachments get orphaned when the PM or post is deleted without removing the attachment first. Deleting a PM or post does not delete the attachment and the file or image remain on the server. I'd like to ask all members to go through their attachments and delete any attachments you don't need anymore or those that have been orphaned. Where can I get a list of my attachments? Click on your display name in the upper right corner of the forums and pick "My Attachments" from the drop-down list. How can I tell an attachment is orphaned? If the PM has been deleted, you'll see a message like this in your attachment list: Unfortunately there is no message if the post has been deleted, so please check your old posts. We do purge old birthday threads every once in a while. Also some hosted projects have been shut down, so you may have orphaned attachments on one of those locations. Thanks!

Is it Possible to Add Custom Map Markers to the Existing ones?

Recommended Posts

Yes, but I don't know how it's done. There are some mods on Nexus which add new types of map marker icons, if you find one you can see how it's done.

Would it be Possible to Add Another Map Marker icon to the Existing ones?

You just need a custom icon texture to override the vanilla "map_icons_all.dds" texture. The map icons are all on one combined dds file which can be found in Textures/Menus/Icons/Map.

I know that much, Basically your retexturing the Map icons, But I want to add a entirely new icon for Dwemer Ruins. What I mean by that is Have a New icon that you can select in the CSE when you place a Map Marker.

OK...I get what you're shooting for. So when you open the pop up menu for Map Marker in the CSE there would be a selection for Dwemer Ruin just as there is for Elven Ruin. And there is enough space on that menu pane to add one more selection. But I don't know of any way to access what you want to do. Nor have I ever seen a mod that does it. That of course doesn't mean it can't be done. Now you've gone and made me curious. Going to dig further into the subject.

Like I said, there are mods which do this, just need to find them and see how they do it.

EDIT

For example, Map Marker Overhaul.

Exactly what I am talking about, I wonder the same. Who knows maybe we got a New OBSE Plugin/Mod on our hands.

Yep I DLd that yesterday and have it on the examination table. There are a number of mods out there which tinker with existing map markers, but this is one of the very few which seem to truly add new markers. Now just have to figure out how it all works.

Thats great to hear! Once I get back to my Computer, then im gonna take a deeper look it. Cant wait to see what you find. :)

Also I was thinking lets say we can fill in that empty space in the Map Markers with a Dwemer Ruins icon. That would help out alot of other mods which have Dwemer Ruins, :P

Wow it’s been 3yrs :X

I’m still in need of Custom icons, I had a look at the Map Marker Overhaul. There is a way to edit the scripts and the .ini files to  specify which icons need to be changed to what.

I personally can’t really edit them, I’m not much of a “scripter”

Gotta add the icon to Textures\Menus\Icons\map\map_icons_all.dds
Then there are plenty of unused icon classes defined in map_config/map_marker_type.xml
And I imagine after thats done you can just add your formID's to MMO - markers.ini

The xml files are the menu files. darkrumbleking gave you the path and name of the file. The xml file loads the dds file and loads the image into the map, which is a menu. drk is telling you to use one of the unused icons in the xml file. You’ll have to figure out the code from the xml and  MMO. I can’t help you much more than that, sorry.

Where are the .xml files?

Have you ever search for a specific file extension before?

If not then type this without quotes in the search field in Windows Explorer.

"*.xml"

That's all you need to do. :)

He'll want a BSA extractor for that, BSA Commander is what i use.

Note on search: In Windows 10 indexing for search is turned on for all files by default. In my case only a few folders are indexed, but in earlier editions of Windows, non-indexed files may not be picked up in searches at all.

Spoiler

Well he has to extract the files from the BSA’s first, if he hasn’t already.

Else they are still in the process of extraction? Probably implies they are compressed to and beyond neutron star specs. :P

You can also use the BSA extractor feature in OBMM instead of the BSA Commander.

My bad I thought you were going to start off with DarN's modified stuff, where everything is already loose files and available for editing.
If you are just modifying vanilla stuff, yes, you will have to extract the BSAs, the Misc and Textures BSAs. That's starting from scratch though.
