It's easy to get other ports with other sounds to compare with the default Microsoft (Roland) GS Wavetable synth,
First decide how many soundfont sets by checking out sites like Synthfont, uncompress them with the sfArk tool, then
download Coolsoft's VirtualMidiSynth and go to the options tab and configure the number of ports (max 4).
Back to the Soundfonts tab, to add them in- and voila! A brand new midi synth!
It's easy then to replace the default GS Wavetable with one of the new set by going to the MidiMapper Tab and choosing the new default.
