      Orphan Attachments   07/31/2018

I have been doing some housekeeping lately and I've noticed that I had a lot of orphaned attachments. Attachments get orphaned when the PM or post is deleted without removing the attachment first. Deleting a PM or post does not delete the attachment and the file or image remain on the server. I'd like to ask all members to go through their attachments and delete any attachments you don't need anymore or those that have been orphaned. Where can I get a list of my attachments? Click on your display name in the upper right corner of the forums and pick "My Attachments" from the drop-down list. How can I tell an attachment is orphaned? If the PM has been deleted, you'll see a message like this in your attachment list: Unfortunately there is no message if the post has been deleted, so please check your old posts. We do purge old birthday threads every once in a while. Also some hosted projects have been shut down, so you may have orphaned attachments on one of those locations. Thanks!

Beware of Email Scams

Recommended Posts

There are plenty of email scams, but the current one I'm getting is creepier than usual. Basically it claims I visited a porn site and they've got the password I used to log in. The creepy bit is the password is one I've used in the past for "throw-away" sites. These are sites that I don't intend to regularly visit and I don't use any personal information on them other than my email address.

It turns out that they got my password from a data breach. CD Projekt Red, Adobe and Nexus Forums were listed as breaches involving my email address.

To see if your email address has been breached, visit Have I been Pwned? I got that link from Canadian Governments Anti-Fraud site, so I'm trusting that it's safe.

I was pwned 6 times--jeez!  Recently someone got my email address because for about a week now I have been getting ridiculous amounts of porn spam.  I don't think it's going to stop coming either.  It's going to get worse.

Yeah I had a bunch too. I don't think I even got a notice for some of them. I think Nexus sent me a note, but I don't remember getting anything from Adobe or CD Projekt Red.

Yep, I got the same email caused by the same breach with Nexus. Knew it was a total hoax though because I have no accounts on porn sites :P

I suspect mine was Nexus too. The account still existed because Nexus refused to delete it when I asked them to. I suppose I could ask now, if I remembered what the ID was. :P

Haven't received any emails, probably due to the ISPs aggressive spam filtering- but Pwned, yes. Just curious all the same if anyone has been informed by that site their email hasn't been Pwned, and to its subscription rate.

I use a different email address for each site I register with, so checking all of them is way too much effort! But I did check my Nexus email address, which was safe.

Thankfully I only receive one spam email roughly every few months (and mostly they aren't actually sent to any of my email addresses [unless it's a BCC with someone else's in the To field, which I cannot check]). The last spam email really was sent to one of my email addresses, which surprised me, but if I get more to that email address I can just delete the email address, I no longer visit the site it was registered with and haven't for about 8 years.
