      Orphan Attachments   07/31/2018

I have been doing some housekeeping lately and I've noticed that I had a lot of orphaned attachments. Attachments get orphaned when the PM or post is deleted without removing the attachment first. Deleting a PM or post does not delete the attachment and the file or image remain on the server. I'd like to ask all members to go through their attachments and delete any attachments you don't need anymore or those that have been orphaned. Where can I get a list of my attachments? Click on your display name in the upper right corner of the forums and pick "My Attachments" from the drop-down list. How can I tell an attachment is orphaned? If the PM has been deleted, you'll see a message like this in your attachment list: Unfortunately there is no message if the post has been deleted, so please check your old posts. We do purge old birthday threads every once in a while. Also some hosted projects have been shut down, so you may have orphaned attachments on one of those locations. Thanks!

The most Restless Night of Sleep Ever!

Recommended Posts

I set the sleep time to six hours in Bruma's Mages Guild to wait for an NPC as it was 2:00 am and the sod was in bed. Two hours went by when I saw the back-end of an NPC walking out the door. I chased after him to discover it was the Countess' steward giving me the Lifting the Vale quest at 4 am. I think this is a bug for the UOP. Not for the fact that he gave me the quest, but that he woke me and took off without saying anything. I had to chase him and initiate dialogue to get the quest. He should have woken me and talked to me right away. Then I went back to sleep, only to be woken two hours later by a Thieves Guild member delivering a note with an option to join. Lovely. Back to bed for my last two hours of sleep! Kind of reminds me of real life actually...

If it is a bug with the UOP that dialogue was not initiated, they might want to know that over at AFK.  I think Arthmoor says that the UOP is end of life, but they may still fix a bug or two?  I mean, that's kinda a big one, I believe.

Your post makes me want to hurry up and finish installing Oblivion (a process that takes days.  And that's when I work at it consistently) and start a new adventure in Cyrodiil.

I've added a new (highly customized) mod to my LO (I'm sure there will be more--I've only packaged up textures thus far): Illumination Within Revived Retrofitted to compliment AWLS.  I've re-scripted it to improve performance (a drawback of the original, so I read) so that now it only uses one quest script.  It will not be perfectly synced with AWLS because that uses "GetRandomPercent" in it's algorithm, but I look forward to the imperfect result; light shining from lit windows at night--neat!.

We aren't doing updated for the UOP anymore. At some point one simply has to say enough is enough after 12 years :P

Anyway, fixing it would still require it to be 100% reproducible on our part if we were going to.

You can say that again.  I am too in the same situation as you are.

If Anda can reproduce it that is.

That's exactly what I'm gonna to do right now.

Because earlier today I bought Oblivion Deluxe Edition on Steam for 9.99€, which was cheaper than I thought it would be during the Luna New Year Sale on Steam and that will close Monday the 11th 19:00 PM.

Good deal, Leo.  I wonder if the GOG version plays nice with OBSE?  Have they done anything to the executable?  The only DRM I'm aware of for Ob is a disc check.

I have no idea since I haven't begin installing mods and I installed Oblivion last night. :P

I've read something about that and I think VM knew what one needed to do.  Maybe Arthmoor know.

does OBSE load ok with the GOG version?

I don't have the GOG version, I have the retail version.  Unless you mean it is the same thing.

Oh yeah, haha.  For some reason I thought he bought the GOG version, but rereading his post he wrote Steam.  My fault.

I think I'll stick with retail though.  It's slightly less hassle.  With Steam you have to worry about keeping in the ability to launch via Steam and accidentally verifying game files and overwriting all you've done.  GOG may not even support OBSE, depending what they did to the exe and if OBSE allows for it.

There has to be 5 versions of retail available--GOTY, Deluxe, anniversary... Special edition (back when it was first released for those who may have forgot)...

Still got the DVD GOTY going well, but it's a bet as to whether the game will finish before the DVD or the DVD drive reach the end of their life cycle. :P

A DVD bought retail with data on it is chemically treated after burning so it is very unlikely to fail. A DVD burnt on someone's personal PC tends (in my experience) to last about two years before starting to suffer errors and lost data.

It should be noted that "for life" (e.g. having a lifetime guarantee) typically refers to the life of the item. So technically, everything you buy is good for life (barring accidents or murder [such as being smashed by a person intentionally]) - then the item dies.

We made some coasters out of CD's and DVD's many years ago. Eventually the plastic breaks down and they become quite brittle. I just did a search and CD's and DVD's are supposed to last 100 years or so, but you have to store them under "ideal" conditions, whatever that means. Rewritable CD's and DVD's are supposed to last 25 years, but once again, that's under those mysterious "ideal" storage conditions.

Interesting stuff, peoples.  I just keep the discs in the sleeve and box they came in.  That should be  decent enough conditions.  "Ideal", like AB said, is vague.  Air conditioned indoors away from light should help things.

There's definitely GOG support for OBSE. You just have to download its own particular "latest" loader. It works great.

Oblivion from GOG has no DRM, no overlays, it's already LAA so you don't have to use the 4gb patcher, it includes all DLC, and you can get it for $10 if it's on sale. It's a no-brainer for people who don't own Oblivion yet, and even for people that do I still suggest it highly.

Sweet.  I'll go the GOG path if I ever decide to buy a digital copy.  Do you know anything about Morrowind?  Does the Graphics Extenders work with the GOG version?  OpenMW?  etc.?

I think MGE or MGE-XE should work without a problem.

https://www.nexusmods.com/morrowind/mods/41102

I dunno about OpenMW though since I don't use it myself.  If I were you I would visit the OpenMW forum and ask the people there.

I'm pretty sure MGE and MWSE would work with the GOG version, but I don't know. Neither MGE nor MWSE work with OpenMW, although a few MWSE mods like Weapon Sheathing and Glow in the Dahrk have some functionality in the latest nightlies of OpenMW. The long-term goal of OpenMW is to either incorporate the functions of MWSE, MGE, MGE-XE or make them irrelevant.
