      Orphan Attachments   07/31/2018

I have been doing some housekeeping lately and I've noticed that I had a lot of orphaned attachments. Attachments get orphaned when the PM or post is deleted without removing the attachment first. Deleting a PM or post does not delete the attachment and the file or image remain on the server. I'd like to ask all members to go through their attachments and delete any attachments you don't need anymore or those that have been orphaned. Where can I get a list of my attachments? Click on your display name in the upper right corner of the forums and pick "My Attachments" from the drop-down list. How can I tell an attachment is orphaned? If the PM has been deleted, you'll see a message like this in your attachment list: Unfortunately there is no message if the post has been deleted, so please check your old posts. We do purge old birthday threads every once in a while. Also some hosted projects have been shut down, so you may have orphaned attachments on one of those locations. Thanks!

Oblivion Crash on Load

Another drastic method is to exit Wrye Bash, delete everything in the Data folder, restart Wrye Bash and do an Anneal all. Haven't tried it, and won't work if there is problem mod.

You do realize that would be exactly the same as to remove Oblivion completely at least for the retail version.  Although, I have no idea if that's gonna to work for Oblivion in Steam then verify game cache.

Well first, stop adding new things like TES4LODGen. When you have a problem, you need to fix it before adding in more stuff, in case the new stuff adds new problems and you don't even spot them because they're hidden by the first problem.

So remove TES4LODGen and the files it generated. Start a new test character and see whether the problem occurs for their saves too. Start disabling mods one at a time to see if the problem goes away. If removing a mod does fix the problem, start restoring the OTHER mods you had disabled (but not the one whose removal fixed the problem) to see if you remain problem-free. If you do, then you can take a closer look at the disabled mod which was causing the problem.

Got it guys,I will not do any Anneal action. Actually,I am working on what Vorians said. Perhaps it is the best approach. I hope it works. If not, well,I am just too bad in modding I guess:(

Welcome to modded Oblivion.  If you wish to continue to mod, you'll have to get some troubleshooting steps in place.  Vorians suggestion is where I'd start too.  You said you can load a save game from the main menu?  But that same save will not load from within the game (i.e. playing)?

That is correct. I am unable to exit while playing to the main menu as well.

When I want to exit to the main menu or to load another saved game,I need to exit Oblivion completely,re-launch the game and choose the saved game I want or just stay in the main menu for testing or change something in options.

So far(following Vorians advice),the modding goes well.I have been able to install and load some mods which cause no trouble to my game(so far,at least). However, the games I try to load are auto-saved games(one from the game and one from streamline) and I just check whether or not I can load the other saved game or exit to main menu. So far so good with it.

Tbh,I really Oblivion XP is conflicting with one of my other mods and causes these CTDs. Myabe I am wrong, but I am confident it is the cause since its readme is the only one that mentions CTDs while trying to load saved game while playing from all the mods I have chosen to use. However, there is sth that doesn't fit in here. The readme mentions specifically in the above mentioned case that it must be an issue with a UI mod(i.e. Dark UI) and one needs to double-check the installation and check the load order as well. I have checked the installation at least 5 times, let BOSS sort out the load order, even checked after boss if the Oblivion XP .esp is loaded after every other mod .esp that alters the UI yet the problem persists.

Did you check the compatibility section in the Ob XP readme? Also check the FAQ at the top of the Nexus comments. Also don’t use auto saves. They get corrupted very easily. You should disable them.

I did, yes! But it seems I found the source of the problem :

http://prntscr.com/mspuya

The knights of the nine mod is causing the CTDs. Tested the game with all the mods prior to it and the game works fine.Once I install it, I get CTDS every time I try to exit to main menu or load another saved game. Why is this happening? What am I doing wrong? This mod was one my last options to check in case it caused problems but it seems I was mistaken all along.

I don't think it's KotN that's causing your issue, instead I think it's Oblivion Reloaded (OR 6.0?) if it is what I think it is.

The Oblivion Reloaded mod does a lot of stuff and some of it has nothing to do with graphics.

Anyway, here is a thread about OR and it has information why you shouldn't use OR.

I will do some tests with KotN just to be sure. But I definitely checked the installation instructions and the compatibility section and there is no where to be mentioned that kotN is incompatible with OR. Besides, with a mod so extented as OB,I think the devs there would mention kotN as incompatible with it,as they mention other mods that they shouldn't be used with OR.

It's been tears since I used Revelation, so I don't recall any specifics.  Read the readme, particularly the installation section.

Also, where did you get Oblivion Reloaded?  Get the latest version from here if you haven't already.

I did download OR from TESReloaded and I have the latest version (OR 6.5.0)

There's no issues with KOTN. Was it cleaned? Check out this thread.

Post some screenshots of the saves from the Wrye Bash Saves Tab- specifically the masters section on the bottom right. Compare them to the working saves- what's the difference?

A very interesting thread, thanks for sharing. Indeed,I always clean my DLCs but this time I tried this install( http://prntscr.com/msxkq2 ) and load ( http://prntscr.com/msxn9r ) order and the game works fine so far. Andalaybay mentioned that I generally shouldn't use pluggy, since it causes CTDs. I will try adding one by one mods that are lower than the Knights of the Nine and see which one causes the trouble(or which combination).

Note: Since I was so angry from my last failures to have a properly modded Oblivion,I deleted the entire game and all the saves and reinstalled rom scratch so now I am using a streamsave and a oblivion save game for my testing. I am not moving outside my prison cell,I just let the game load and then try to exit to main menu to see if I get a CTD.

I don't remember the detail now since it was a long time I read it about, but I think Streamline can sometimes cause CTD due to bloated gamesaves.

It seems your issue is caused by the KotN Revelation mod and not KotN itself.  Have you tried to uninstall the KotN Revelation mod and the Streamline mod?

Try that first, just to see if that helps.

It is done!!!I made it!!! The game works normally,at last!!! THIS --> https://prnt.sc/mtb1we   was the issue from the beggining! Thank god I found it!

Thank you all for trying to help all this time!I appreciate it!!

Since my problem is now fixed(or so it seems,so far the game runs as it should),allow me to ask one more question, not related with this thread:

What does each one these do?

It has to do with the number of dead NPCs allowed to stay in-game.  The more allowed, the more of a hit to the CPU and memory.  Raising the number can reduce performance, lowering the number can increase performance.  I leave it at default.  In all my years  with Oblivion, I've never seen too much interest in that particular GMST.  But experiment, see what's what, knowwhatimean. ;)

Personally,I like having corpses staying on the map for as long as possible-it makes the game more realistic,at least for me.I consider it a very important part of a game in general.

I want to know what each of them does exactly so I can have the max possible gain from it(according to how much my laptop can stand of quality).  And the default [[x1]],what does it mean??? Multiply the default for the game number of copses with 1???

It means that the setting is a multiplier, so x1 is a multiplier of 1. TESCOSI might have all these settings documented. Another option is the UESP.

I checked the link you sent. It has some info but it is incomplete. Several of its links are not working, too.

In any case, thank you for the info

You forgot UESP.

There is also another site with a lot of Oblivion stuff, but be aware it's an old site and some links are broken.

Good call, Leo.  The Tweakguides site is solid except for the memory and threading stuff.  Check it out, Terrorix.  The author points out the questionable tweaks.
