      Orphan Attachments   07/31/2018

I have been doing some housekeeping lately and I've noticed that I had a lot of orphaned attachments. Attachments get orphaned when the PM or post is deleted without removing the attachment first. Deleting a PM or post does not delete the attachment and the file or image remain on the server. I'd like to ask all members to go through their attachments and delete any attachments you don't need anymore or those that have been orphaned. Where can I get a list of my attachments? Click on your display name in the upper right corner of the forums and pick "My Attachments" from the drop-down list. How can I tell an attachment is orphaned? If the PM has been deleted, you'll see a message like this in your attachment list: Unfortunately there is no message if the post has been deleted, so please check your old posts. We do purge old birthday threads every once in a while. Also some hosted projects have been shut down, so you may have orphaned attachments on one of those locations. Thanks!

Oblivion - Steam version

Recommended Posts

What the title says...

I was a little bored and I asked myself what game do I want to play, so I decided to start the Steam version of Oblivion then did the usual thing and that's change the resolution for my video card.

After that I checked the Data Files option and notice that all DLC was already active, but I don't want to play these DLC.

Mehrunes Razor

Vile's Lair

My question is.  Is it safe to deactivate these two DLC I don't want to play?

If I do that can Steam make them re-activated once I verify game cache in Steam, should I need to do so when troubleshooting an issue.

You can deactivate them all day every day.  Deleting them is another story.  If you verify integrity and they are deleted or moved (or whatever) then Steam will redownload them.

Thanks for the confirmation. :)

I also got OBSE working without any loading issue, but Oblivion seems pretty much empty without installing mods.

Any advice aside from using BOSS (LOOT?), Wrye Bash, TES4Edit, and TES4LODGen?

Of course RefScope is a definitely a must have mod, otherwise this one cannot report a mod issue in-game properly.  Sometime I use RefScope just to check which container that's safe for storage loot. :P

BOSS is still the one to use for Oblivion. Mhahn continues to update the master list. TES4Edit is being updated again and Elminster just released an update a couple of days ago.

I see.  Does WrinklyNinja still updating BOSS?

I know about TES4Edit as I only need to follow the instructions in the readme in order to use TES4Edit after renaming the exe.  The same thing also applies for xLODGen for Skyrim (TES5LODGen, SSELODGen IIRC).

Sorry, for so many noobish questions since it was a long time I touched Oblivion along with mods, tools etc you name it.

I finally got everything working with both BOSS 2.3.1 and the latest Wrye Bash (I think it's the latest).  The only thing there is left to do is to install both TES4Edit and TES4LODgen and get both of them working.

The BOSS exe isn’t being supported any more, but it works ok except the before and after clauses in the user rules are backwards. It’s not a bit deal. The new mod since you’ve played last would be EngineBugFixes and that’s a must as far as I’m concerned. You can even configure it to omit some fixes, but I’ve always used it as-is.

I like BUM.

It's only needed if you really fire up that userlist.  I do, so I like the tool.

Also, consider Oblivion Reloaded.

It has it's fair share of haters, but for certain things, there's no other place you can turn to to find it.  The memory management feature and custom effects system is my main reason for keeping it in my LO.  A lot of the features are buggy.  It's still being developed, however, and there will be a new (supposedly) properly implemented shadows system soon.

You just have to disable sleep mode in OR, right?

P.S. Andalay mentioned Engine Bug Fixes. The other common essentials are Oblivion Stutter Remover and the unofficial patches. Something like Kuertee Cleanup is needed to prevent save bloat. If you’ll need Tes4lodgen, odds are you’ll also need Tes4ll to generate new distant land meshes.

Don’t forget to disable quick saves and auto saves. A mod like Better Saves can handle auto saving for you.

What other kinds of mods are you looking for?

I actually don’t recommend Kuertee Cleanup. It’s too aggressive and can cause problems with quest mods. It removes bodies that shouldn’t be removed. I really doubt you’ll have a problem with saved game bloat. I haven’t had that problem in literally years. I bet EngineBugFixes has some fixes for that too!

We figured out how to make it compatible. The instructions are in the Ob XP readme.

Don't even try to make it compatible, because OR should NOT touch the sleeping, waiting (you CANNOT wait, period!) in-game among other stuff that OR touches.

It is OR that should be compatible with the majority of mods by simple offer great graphics, but does OR do that hell no and that's why I won't use OR.

True, but that problem is easily fixed with an ini tweak. I actually use AoG instead for the same purpose, but that’s a much bigger overhaul.

Andalay didn’t have to do anything to OXP to make it compatible. Again, a simple ini tweak in OR solves the problem. I get that feature creep is a problem for OR, but it’s a problem that’s easily solved.

Yes, all features of OR can be disabled.  But it's up to.  There's nothing saying you have to like it or use it.

AoG == Amulet of Greed, I believe.  A mod written by a pretty crack scripter.  I was in touch with him back in the days of his prime.  If you don't want all the features of AoG, many have been broken down into standalone mods.  search "lubronbrons" (the author) on Nexus.

I think Alenet should not *force* people to do the editing them self , instead of making those settings default (all settings = 0) and provide user-friendly information about what the user can change or not change.

I agree that he should, but he doesn’t! So it’s up to the user to decide if changing a few digits on an ini file is worth the graphic and stability features.

It seems that I cannot use Arthmoor's Oblivion DLC Delayers mod in the Steam version due for deactivating one or more DLC and once I uninstalled the Oblivion DLC Delayers mod every DLC quest are now *disabled*. :wallbash:

So, I have no other choice then to scrap everything and start over plus check the result I get with either BOSS or LOOT after sorting my loadorder.

But I know right now there is a difference between BOSS and LOOT.

As you can see BOSS place the Alternate Beginnings.esp where is should be at the end of the loadorder, while LOOT place it way to high up in the loadorder.

Furthermore, there is also a difference about sorting the DLC.  In LOOT all activated DLC are sorted directly after the Unofficial Shilvering Isle Patch, but BOSS doesn't do that.

Also, the only mod that both BOSS and LOOT didn't recognize is the Enchanted Portable Tent - Alt Hotkey + Interiors Allowed.esp, which I think is odd due the fact that the bashed patch treated it as a merged mod.

Does anyone know what console command I need to use to start the DLC quests?

Why?  Because I need to do that, otherwise I need to scrap everything and start over, but I don't want to do if I can avoid that.

You have to use CBash to build your bashed patch when you use Arthmoor's DLC Delayers. It's a filter mod, so it has to be merged into the bashed patch and only CBash can do that. The python version (of the bashed patch) can't.

I'm only using a couple of the DLC's and it works fine.

Ah, that explains it.  Thanks for the information, Anda. :)

Although, I think Arthmoor should mention that in the readme which he doesn't.

Installation
============

Install via Wrye Bash's installers tab, or manually place Official DLC Delayers.esp into your Data folder.

When you build your bashed patch, make sure this mod is selected in the "Merge Patches" and "Import Scripts" sections.
DO NOT activate the mod, let the Bashed Patch take care of it.

This mod is meant to be used when starting a new game but will not interfere with your progress if you have already activated all of the official DLC.

If he had done that then I wouldn't keep you posted, right.

I just did that, but nope no OblivionDLC Delayers.esp is shown in the Merged Patches section when rebuilding the bashed patch.

Also, when I tried to rebuild the bashed patch in the CBash mode WB complaint about I was trying to rebuild a bashed patch that's based on a PBash'd Bashed Patch, 0.esp.

Is that normal?
