Name: Namaset

Race/Species: Minotaur

Description:

Namaset is an albino Minotaur, as such he has perfectly pure white fur and red eyes. With the natural hunched forward posture of his people he stands 6'9", excluding the extra half a foot his curling horns add. Namaset is hugely muscled, though he is starting to go a little soft around the middle - just a little - and he weighs in at about 400 lbs. Notably, he is considered small for a Minotaur.

When your skin is thick enough to turn knife blades and your fur is warm enough to withstand blizzards, clothing and armour are of little use. Namaset wears a loincloth suspended by a leather, pouch-covered belt, the axe strapped to his back and little else. Bone, steel and ceramic fetishes are tied into the mane of silvery hair growing from his head, neck and shoulders.

Brief Life History:

These days Namaset is hugely respected by, not only his own tribe, but nearly all tribes across the Great Plains, and beyond into the Peregan Moutains - even other races respect him. He is a shaman famed for his wisdom, power and age and is often compared to the legendary shamans of old. In fact, nearly as many pilgrims come seeking his wisdom as go spirit questing at the barrows of the ancient shamans. Even those of the human or even elvish persuasion have been known to come seeking his counsel. It was, however, not always thus.

As the runty, albino calf very few expected Namanset to make it to adulthood. While the adults of his tribe treated him with the respect the Lore requires and shushed the other children when their taunting became cruel, in their hearts many agreed with those taunts. They believed that the brutal, nomadic lifestyle of a minotaur tribe would kill him sooner rather than later, believed that he would never get the chance to be of any use to the tribe; they saw him as one more mouth to feed, an unnecessary burden. Namaset's childhood was one filled with scorn.

That considered, it speaks volumes about Namaset that he didn't take the path those of similar circumstance followed almost unanimously. He didn't follow the path of the warrior, didn't seek to prove his value in the blood of the tribe's enemies. Oh, he learnt how to swing an axe alright, but didn't, according to most at the time, have the common decency to get himself killed so they could stop worrying about him. No, Namaset chose to pursue the Shaman's path, the path of service to his people.

Namaset bore the ridicule that continued throughout the years of his apprenticeship to the Setna Tribe shaman. The old bull's announcement that Namaset had completed his apprenticeship satisfactorily was met with disbelief and when he left the tribe on his first Pilgrimage, very few expected him to return. That time, spent spirit walking and communing among the elders who kept the Ancient Barrows was the first time in his life that Namaset knew peace from the derision of his childhood. He cherished that piece, but when the time came, Namaset returned to his tribe.

At first the scorn continued as if he had never left, but slowly it began to fade as the his fellow tribe members realised that with a word Namaset could make himself more powerful than the strongest of warriors and with that same word he could make the strongest of warriors more powerful than they had ever imagined. Broken bones could be healed at the brush of a fiSetna saw a year with no stillbirths or plague tents.

Slowly, over many more years, scorn and ridicule gave way to adoration.

Abilities & Skills:

As a true master of healing magic, Namaset knows very well one of the most important truths of healing: It is always better for a wound to heal naturally. Forced, magical healing may be convenient, but it is never as thorough as a wound healed properly by nature. He is a skilled non-magical healer. While he can mend a broken bone in seconds he is much happier to set it and use his magic to guide the natural healing of the body. Or to stitch a cut and use his magic to lessen the scaring as much as is possible.

None of Namaset's magic is directly violent. He can quite happily boost strength, speed, endurance and ferocity which means that his magic can, and often during his younger days did, have very violent consequences. The closest he gets to offensive magic is sapping the energy out of the muscles and holding his target in place - granted, when your a 400 lb, axe-wielding minotaur stopping your enemy from moving is about as good as throwing a fireball at him, sometimes better.

Namaset is a planeswalker. He innately possesses the spark of very rare magic that not only makes every other spell he casts that little bit more powerful, but allows him to translate himself between planes of the multiverse. He discovered this during his first pilgrimage when he found that his spirit walks began to take him bodily to other worlds. He travelled to many worlds during the years of that pilgrimage, learning secrets and truths that the majority of shaman's had never imagined.

Despite this great gift and the esteem Namaset holds it in, he has walked the planes very rarely since that first pilgrimage, deciding rather to stay in his own world and benefit his people by his powers. Lately though, he has begun to notice that the spark is extending his lifespan, having just passed his first century Namaset still looks and feels like a minotaur in his sixties or seventies. Slowly he has come to realise that he will be forced to watch everyone he knows and cares about come and go from the world - that realisation has awoken again his lust to see other worlds, to walk unknown land and live a life to which a nomad's tent cannot compare.

His shaman training makes Namaset very, very rare among the nomadic Minotaurs in that he can read and write. His early planeswalking, though, resulted in an education far beyond what most shaman's acquire.

I have decided that Sean Connery will do the voice acting for Namaset...

OOC:  Sean Connery dressed as a minotaur would be, quite possibly, the most epic thing EVER!

I run off cliffs or corner myself up against rocks when I do that. :laughing2dw:

And you know that either Krahe or Dove is going to call him fluffy now.
