Oh dear. Just wait until @Amadaunfinds you. She’s a whovian too. :D

Jimi and I took some courses on German. It’s so hard to learn another language as an adult. We don’t get much opportunity to practice in Canada, so we’ve forgotten a lot of it. :P

Thanks for welcoming me, Sue :)

@AndalayBay Cool, I'm not the only whovian on this forum.

Regarding learning another language and forgetting most of it, I can relate to that, too. I experienced this with French (grade 7 - 12) and Spanish (only during the apprenticeship). I think I could revive my knowledge when I start learning again. There so many other things I wanted to learn (like programming) and having problems with time management and decision making (and sticking to decisions once made) often thwart my ambitions (I call this procrastination mode). But sometimes I enter my flow mode and I can work on projects all night long with no need to sleep and (force myself to) stop when the first morning light shines through my window. It's no wonder that my sleep-wake rhythm is delayed being the ultimate night owl.

Hello there. You heard my call, that's fantastic. I'm not alone. Alons-y! Geronimo! (Well,  does 12 have a catchphrase, besides "Clara?!")

I like all Doctors of New Who, 12 is my favourite one. I still need to catch up on the Classic Who (have only watched some episodes with the third Doctor so far).

Thank you. Yes, German is my first language. I learned English since grade 5 of the primary school (the primary schools in the state where I lived went to grade 6, the ones in the other states to grade 4) until grade 13 of the high school ("Gymnasium" in Germany). After that I learned  "Business English" during my apprenticeship as a  "foreign language assistant" ("Fremdsprachenassistent") (2 years). Although, I did the apprenticeship about 10 years ago and haven't worked in this kind of field, I try using English everyday reading Endlish speaking forums, articles, books or watching movies in English (but I still need English subtitles in most cases). I think I can write better in English than talk irl (this applies to German as well; I'm an introvert, I guess :D). However, I'm proud that I mananged some conversations with people I met during my trip to Cardiff last year. Why Cardiff? Because it was my last chance to visit the Doctor Who Experience before it closed its doors forever . Yeah, I'm a whovian :geek:.

So listening to English and translating isn't as easy for you?  That's interesting considering you write better than some native speakers (especially here in the States--primary education here can be hit and miss, particularly in cities).  I'd love to learn German (my ethnicity) and have considered buying Rosetta stone to learn.  It's kind of expensive, but is supposed to be very effective.  They use it for our military when a language is required for the soldiers'/airmen's/sailor's jobs.

It's mostly when the people have a stronger accent, slang, no clear pronounciation (e.g. when they are muttering), or are talking too quietly. Another reason is that my hearing can be a bit delayed sometimes (it's as if my brain has hiccups during the information processing). So when they speak too fast, I can't get everything what they said and ask them to repeat something (or I need to rewind when watching movies). I have similar problems with my native language for the same reasons. Some people, like my mother, become a bit angry when I don't understand. They repeat what they said too loud (so it hurts my ears a little). I already did an hearing test, and my hearing is fine; I only have some minor problems when the surroundings are too noisy.

I have the same problem. My hearing is very good, but I have small sinus passages, so wax builds up in my ears. When it does, I lose all the lower pitches and have a very hard time understanding people. It's taken several hearing tests, but we finally figured it out.

Erghh- :P are we circuitously heading around to this thing again?

Which one are you? I'm a Yanni for sure- in fact it's more like a Yeanni. :P

This could be another reason. I think I should check this out and make an appointment with the ENT. I don't remember the last time being at the ENT, it must be years ago.

@Schtearn I heard "Laurel" but after a short pause, I heard "Yanny" for a few seconds, after that "Laurel" again. According to this video 47 % of people hear "Yanny" and 53 % hear "Laurel". Thanks for bringing this up, it's an interesting phenomenon.

That's interesting- as it says with the pitch brought up 30% it's very much Laurel. But what's the threshold I wonder- we'll have to experiment with the waveform. :)

I have good news about my old Jimdo site. Today, I found out that the site is online again. Recently, I got an e-mail from the support stating that they removed the site due to a violation of their terms but they didn't tell me which content was responsible for the deletion. One of my several e-mails to the support had probably reached the right person to solve my problem. Nevertheless, I continue to work on the new version of Selene's Shadow Realm and as soon as it's finished I will leave a note on the old site that I've moved to another server. After that is done I declare this case closed. It was a odyssey for me but I learned a lot from it. I learned that you can get a better hearing from somebody when you keep trying and it's good to have a backup plan. This backup plan (working on a new version of the site) improved my knowledge in Wordpress, HTML, CSS and PHP. Now I have website which looks just how I wanted it to look. I took me a lot a more to time to customize it but I think it was worth it.

Cool site! Couldn't see anything there qualifying for a VOT- folks that delete stuff without issuing prior notice know very little about etiquette!

Just curious: Are you the same as Lady Selene? The old Bethsoft forum avatar would have been more you- but the linked one? :P

Edit: Cool music uploads! There was also some very good explore type instrumental stuff downloaded for Oblivion from somewhere. It's out there for sure- but where?

VOT?

After the recovery of the site I removed some images and some lines of code which could responsible for the deletion. Before the site was deleted I tried to customize some things with Javascript. Maybe they didn't like my coding. I wanted to achieve this animated effect (the demonstration is at the bottom of the page): https://www.sitepoint.com/javascript-copy-to-clipboard/

When looking over the code for the copy to clipboard buttons anew I noticed that the whole CSS and Javascript part was removed. But I'm not sure if I did it myself as I tried to transfer the code to the footer (I wanted to place the code centrally for all subpages). The code in the footer did not display correctly (it worked fine at the previous location). Shortly after I pasted the code to the new location I was logged out. I could log in again but my site was gone. There was only an error message left. Maybe it was the Javascript code or one or more of the images. One image of a character was a lot more revealing but you didn't see the delicate things because it was shot from behind. I downloaded images from Pixabay and used them for the blog posts as featured image. The site stated that the images are licensed under Creative Commons and can be used without asking for permission or setting a link to the source. But maybe some users who uploaded the images to Pixabay took  images from other sites which have other copyright terms and a couple of the images I have used could be affected by this, who knows. Some many possibilities...

It's time to stop pondering. And I can't be bothered asking Jimdo which content caused this mayhem because I'm simply done with this. All I want to do now is to publish the new version of my site. Yesterday, I made a contract with a paid hosting service. The hosting package I chose has three domains for free and I don't need to pay for the first three months. When this period is over, I pay 4.95 EUR (4.83 USD according to the current exchange rate) for everything monthly. The account and the domain were activated today.

No, I'm not the same. My name on the old and on the new Bethsoft forums is still Selene310187. I don't think that will change in the near future ;)

Thanks. Yes, it isn't easy to find stuff on the internet again when you don't know the exact name. I have no clue either. It's possible that the music package got deleted due to copyright infringement. That's why I chose tracks which are licensed under Creative Commons ("CC0", "by," "by-sa", and/or "by-nc"). I wasn't sure about the "nd" ("no derivatives") one, therefore I didn't include any "nd" licensed tracks in my music package. According to this table, which I have discovered just now, I could have included them as well. It would be a different case if I added the "nd" ones to a video because "synching music in timed relation with a moving image is always considered an adaptation" and this would be against the "No Derivatives" clause.

Hah! :), yes the other (Lady) Selene is certainly a fan of Skyrim more than Oblivion- here is her avatar- thought she had another one somewhere which looked a bit more like yours- but then it could be another Selene altogether.

VOT (funny one) Very Opulent Temple? Violent Outlandish Thug? Voluminous Old Threnody? Virility Over Tact? Answer's in the spoiler, but be careful:

Spoiler

Opening this spoiler was a Violation of Terms!!!

That's truly a funny one

The deed is done: Selenesshadowrealm.com :celebration:

After about one month of tinkering, my website is online! Now I can finally dedicate myself to my mod projects again. :obgate:

Thank you! :)

Guestbooks are used rarely today. I think it's polite leaving a note if the visitors enjoyed the site, have feedback or just want to say hello. Yes, I like old-fashioned things :D

Like the site Selene.  Blender pointers would be a great thing to see.  Maybe using more recent versions (which I read has a far easier to understand UI) for projects, or getting to grips with 2.49b's GUI.
