Games on Sale

Recommended Posts

I chipped in on the Go Fund Me campaign for that and I’ve never downloaded it, let alone played it. :P

GOG has their summer sale, which I'm sure everyone knows.  I've picked up a dozen games for 20 bucks.  Good games.

You can also enter a contest on Nexus to win some GOG games. I should have posted that yesterday because the entry period ends today.

True, plus Nexus has a GOG deal--certain games are cheaper and Nexus gets a kickback.  Fallout, etc--games that Nexus supports.

GOG continues their summer sale. Today they had horror titles on sale, including Vampire the Masquerade: Redemption. This is the first game in the series. It’s only $1.99 CAD! I’ve never played it. Sorry I wasn’t able to post this sooner.

I bought Battlespire and The Redguard last night (giving me Arena and Daggerfall for free), though comments under both Batllespire and Redguard suggest the GOG versions are unplayable. Meh.

That would be from people who have never played those games and don't realize they were very hard to play back then. Let us know how it goes.

Oh yes, great sale.  Bought Morrowind, Call of Cthuhlu and Doom 3 BFG--all for under 20 bucks.

Actually they say the games are technically unplayable, not that they're hard games to play. Anyway I doubt I'll get around to playing them any time soon.

Why would they sell games which are technically unplayable? For newer rigs is it a timing thing in the game engine or an OS/architecture issue perhaps addressed by running in a VM (think scummvm-like :P )

I found that the graphics resolution was so low, Arena and Daggerfall were almost unplayable. I couldn't use an LCD monitor at all, I had to dig up a CRT. I also used my ancient Pentium MMX so I didn't have to mess around with a DOS box. That's what I was trying to say.

As you suggested Schtearn, processor speed is also an issue.

One person's comment on Redguard: " GOG only gives you the 3Dfx version which uses a 3Dfx wrapper to emulate the 3Dfx hardware. It runs very poorly even on a fast modern machine. The framerate is choppy which affects sword fighting which is crucial in the gameplay of this title. I have tried to mess around with the settings in DOSBox and nGlide and nothing seems to help. "

Another: " The emulated version is terribly slow, choppy and unpleasant. It seems, dosbox isn't capable of emulating the game properly. I'm not sure if the software-version would work faster, but on the GOG-version you can't change 3D-acceleration to software mode. "

And there's more like that.

In fact I was mistaken about the other title, they don't have the same complaints for Battlespire.

EDIT

I'm not bothered personally, I bought after reading those reviews.
